Provo-Cation - Recap

The scene opens in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan six months ago. First Sgt. John Shears and Sgt. Mike Loverro approach a Taliban group when they see Major Filk and Captain Barnes giving Claymore Mines to the Taliban. They leave and suddenly, the reinforcements arrive and kill the terrorists. However as they are trying to get out of dodge, Mike is shot in the helmet and goes down. John picks him up and carries him to safety. John is inducted into the WITSEC program with the name John Stills. Fast-forward to present day and Mary is at her desk and Stan tells that the job is worth it when they see someone who sees their commanding officer steal things and has to be forced into WITSEC. Mary says that it is better then Falutia. Marshall laughs and says that should be their bumper sticker.

They get into the room with John and Sue, his wife. Major Lucas Provo, JAG Attorney for John, comes in and Stan stammers in front of him. Sue tells that she felt safer on the base and Marshall tells that he will be taking lead in the case and they will be able to call anytime. Provo tells Mary that they are taking the lead and Mary is sarcastic in their protection and Sue is upset that they are arguing and leaves. Marshall goes out and Mary asks what his “big book of plans” says they do when the wife runs out of the room crying. Provo tells that he thought that Sue wouldn’t have a problem with the program and Mary tells that it makes sense that they not be protected from the same entity that is trying to kill him. He says that they get paid from the same people and that they need to work together. Stan agrees and tells Mary that she needs to relax. Mary is upset that Stan has uniform envy and Stan says that Provo is a hero and needs to be respected.

Mary comes out and tells that Provo is a jerk and Marshall tells that he has something that will put her in a good mood and shows that he has two Isotopes tickets. He says that Abigail set up for a “Ghost Walk” the same night. She takes the tickets and is shocked that Marshall is missing out on an Isotopes game. Marshall and Mary get John and Sue settled in a house, but Provo comes in and tells that it is not secure enough for them. Mary tells Marshall to take John and Sue on the tour and she tells Provo that he can’t try to assess everything and says that that it is safe. Provo tells that there are teams that would repel down through the skylight and take John before Sue could do anything. Sue comes in and asks if they are safe and Mary says that they are, but agrees to look at other places. Later that night, John is watching a military movie and Sue tries to talk to him. He storms off. Meanwhile, Marshall is with Abigail and they kiss. Marshall’s phone rings. It is Sue and she is in the bathroom with John telling her to open the door. Marshall and Abigail arrive and John is telling her that “they” are going to kill her. Provo gets in and says that John is suffering from PTSD. Mary asks what makes him an expert of PTSD. Provo tells that he had it. They need to get him help.

The next day, they settle John and Sue in a home and Provo tells that the home is safe. Marshall talks to Sue and she says that she saw so many families broken apart because of PTSD and that she is scared, but says that she will work through it. They leave and meet John outside. Provo tells that he knows about PTSD, but John says that he is fine and doesn’t need any therapists. Provo tells Mary that if John is still suffering from PTSD, the defense is going to tear him apart and they will be far worse off. Mary is distracted because all she can think of is eating French Fries and tacos with Sauerkraut. Mary and Provo go to lunch and he says that it is nice to eat with someone and they talk about John and Sue and if they have to separate them. However, the topic gets changed to them and why they are single. Provo says that he is holding out for someone smarter and messier. Mary tells that she is holding out for someone who doesn’t bug her. They laugh. Later, Provo and Marshall go in to John to face his demons and disguise it as a pre-trial run through. Marshall pushes John when he doesn’t say Mike Loverro’s name right and goes through the incident in Afghanistan and he breaks down and says that it was him who killed Mike.

After a break, he explains that he gave the wrong hand single and he couldn’t stop him and Mike took the bullet that was meant for him. Provo tells that he carried Mike on his back and says that he is a hero. Provo tells that he is going to come out of it, but he doesn’t know where. Later that night, Abigail and Marshall go on “Ghost Walk” and Oscar runs off. He runs up to Brandi and Peter. Marshall asks who the Handed House fan is and it is Peter. Brandi tells that they are invited to the wedding. Marshall tells Abigail that he wants to move in together. She agrees immediately. Marshall goes to Sue and John’s and Sue asks if John is with him, but he isn’t. Sue realizes that the gun that John said that Marshall gave him is gone. Marshall tells that they tracked John’s rental car and Provo tells that John is going to Mike Loverro’s funeral in Colorado.

They drive up to the cemetery and they see the funeral is in progress. Mary sees John behind a tree and Provo tells that he is going to go out front and Marshall around back. Provo tells John that it is alright and that he doesn’t have to do anything. John says that he wanted to apologize to Mike’s wife. John takes out the gun and puts it to his head. He tells them that he is sorry. Marshall and Provo talk John down and Provo says that he knows that John is hurting and says that he can help him. John listens and drops the gun. He is escorted and Mary and Provo have a little moment and Mary says that Provo wasn’t the problem and the rest is implied. Mary gets to Sue’s when Brandi calls and tells that Abigail is invited to the wedding and says that she is really nice. Mary says that it is a midlife crisis that Marshall is in, but Brandi doesn’t think so. Mary goes up and Sue tells that she forgot that she was coming. Mary says that she has a pamphlet for her and says that she has been through a lot. She tells to reach out to her if she needs to.

Mary goes back to the station and sees Marshall with pamphlets of houses. Marshall teases her about her relationship with Provo, but she says that it is nothing. Marshall says that some people love pregnant women. Marshall tells that he and Abigail are moving in together. The episode ends with Marshall and Abigail finding their new home, Brandi and Peter are preparing for the wedding and Sue and John going to see Shelly Finkle. Provo comes in and asks Mary to go out to dinner with her and she agrees if Provo gets her a beret that he wears to give it to Stan. He walks off with her bag and she asks if that is a yes. He says that it was implied. The episode ends.
