|In season two, the gang gets in touch with family. Danny DeVito joins the main cast as Dennis and Dee's father, Frank Reynolds, and we also meet their mother, Barbara. The season culminates in the revelation that Barbara had an affair many years ago with another man, Bruce Mathis. Bruce is Dennis and Dee's real father, but his compassion and philanthropy are too much for the two to handle, so they go back to Frank. Frank, however, learns that Charlie could be the product of a one-night stand he had thirty years ago with Charlie's mother. Mac visits his father in prison but doesn't have the heartfelt reunion he expected. Instead, his father asks Mac and Charlie to smuggle heroin into prison for him. |
Besides family, we also meet a past classmate of the gang's from high school named Matthew Mara, nicknamed Rickety Cricket due to the leg braces he used to wear. Matthew, now a priest, ends up leaving the church when Dee leads him to believe she's in love with him. Unfortunately, she isn't interested him at all, leaving him devastated. The waitress returns and sleeps with Frank in order to hurt Dennis, who won't return the affection she has for him. The McPoyle brothers also show up and get revenge on Charlie for turning them over to the police last season.
