On a distant planet, Ajuris, a court has called upon the Manhunters – a group of robotic warriors – to seek out and return with an accused criminal: John Stuart, a.k.a. Green Lantern. The League, soon sees (first hand) the power and wrath of these androids; in the heat of battle, Green Lantern suddenly appears. Without offering any explanation, he surrenders himself and his ring, and flies off with the hunters, all the while the rest of the onlooking League are beyond perplexed. With John offering no answers whatsoever, the League has no choice but to seek them for themselves.

Episode Notes |
| |
Batman and Wonder Woman do not appear in this episode. | The title of this episode refers to the Green Lantern's code:
"In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's light!".
The first (and only) episode of Superman featuring a Green Lantern was titled "In Brightest Day...." | The yellow skinned alien with a ponytail sitting in the gallery is of the same race as one of Gnaww's thugs in Superman's "The Main Man, Part 1". | Kanjar-Ro's first appearance in the DCAU. |

Plot Keys
This story bears some resemblance to Justice League of America 140-141, "No Man Escapes the Manhunter," which featured the Silver Age Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. Apart from this, it also integrates aspects of 'Cosmic Odyssey,' in which John Stewart destroys a planet. | Shaft
The opening sequence with John Stewart walking down the street, donning an overcoat and shades, and with background music is a nod to the movie Shaft, a 1971 blaxploitation film that centers on a detective's fight against the black mob, and then the white mob. The movie was adaptation of Ernest Tidymanby's by Tidyman and John D.F. Black. It won an Academy Award for Best Music, Song for Isaac Hayes for Theme from Shaft. Shaft was followed by two movie sequels: Shaft's Big Score! in 1972 and Shaft in Africa in 1973. |
