Fearful Symmetry - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
A scientist runs down the city streets at night. He reaches for a door but a burst of heat vision cuts off his escape. Supergirl flies down and informs him that he's the last loose end. Soldiers open fire on her from the roof, wounding her with Kryptonite laser beams. She easily subdues them but flying soldiers move in to attack. Supergirl flies past them and they give chase. She brings debris down on them then uses her heat vision to throw cars up in their path. Finally she smashes them with a billboard sign, then locates the scientist with her superhearing. She flies out to a STAR lab building only to find an attack robot waiting for her, equipped with a Kryptonite drill. She destroys it and then prepares to kill the scientist...

And a terrified Kara wakes up in her bed at the Kent farm. Two holes created by her heat vision are in the ceiling.

Kara goes to J'onn for help deciphering her dreams but he admits he can't tell if it's a dream or a memory. He puts her on the inactive roster and Kara ends up talking to Green Arrow. He agrees to help but isn't sure how to proceed. League member the Question overhears and notes they may be repressed memories. Kara confirms that she's been to STAR Labs when she was injured during the time Superman was brainwashed by Darkseid into attacking Earth, and doesn't have all her memories of the time. Green Arrow is skeptical but the Question insists there's one conspiracy that ties everything all together. The Question insists they'll need his help and points out that he already knows everything about Kara.

The heroes go to see Dr. Hamilton at STAR Labs, and he assures them that nothing happened when she was there for treatment. Hamilton explains that the robot she saw in her dream is a surgical robot, the one that operated on her during her injuries. He suspects that her mind constructed a scenario of fighting back to cover the period when she felt defenseless. Green Arrow is satisfied but the Question doesn't believe it. As they leave, helicopters arrive and attack robots and soldiers come after them. As Kara fights off the robot, the Question and Green Arrow take out the soldiers and destroy one of the helicopters. The other one flees as Kara smashes the robot. The Question identifies it as a trainer like the one the League use, and they purchase them from the Army. The man who commissioned the robots, General Hardcastle, let the fight against Superman and put Kara in the hospital, but is now retired.

The trio goes to Hardcastle's cabin in the woods and the general is armed with a gun with a single Kryptonite bullet. He points out that superheroes can be fickle, but Green Arrow blocks his shot long enough for the Question to disarm him. Hardcastle explains that the Army considered him a failure for being unable to stop Superman. He took early retirement but believes the Army, working with Big Business, will shut him up for good one day. They've been working together to develop alien technology, engineering various super villains. Hardcastle admits he's been out of the loop, but the cabal will find them.

As the team teleports back to the Watchtower, a woman who looks like Supergirl enters Hardcastle's cabin, and says her name is Tea. He tries to go for his gun but Tea easily stops him and then moves in for the kill.

Kara wakes up from a new dream, knowing what happened to Hardcastle. J'onn informs them that Gilbert Hallstrom, the man from Kara's dream and a scientist at a bio-tech company named NuvoGen, has been reported dead. Only one network has the story, and the Question believes they need to find the source of the story. Green Arrow suggests they split up: he and Kara go to NuvoGen, and the Question checks out the source.

At a reporter hangout, the news anchor who broke the story, Lasser, leaves for the night. He takes a cab and the driver pulls off into an alleyway and stops the taxi. He starts discussing boy bands and turns the radio on, then releases a cloud of gas and transforms into the Question. Lasser screams.

Green Arrow, without his costume, infiltrates NuvoGen dressed as a guard. He lets Kara in, unaware that Tea is following them.

Lasser admits that some girl gave him the story, and gives a description of a woman resembling Kara who was having trouble sleeping. The Question tosses Lasser out of the taxi and drives away.

Green Arrow and Kara check NuvoGen's files and discover that Hallstrom was a potential whistleblower. They find files proving that NuvoGen has been experimenting with Kara's DNA, and created a clone named Tea. There's a training file that matches Kara's dreams: the clone has a psychic leak. They hear someone running off and follow the figure into a hologram training simulator. Tea descends and attacks Kara, smashing her into a building. She explains that she's basically Kara, accelerated a few years. Tea plans to dispose of Kara and eliminate the one person who can tell what she's thinking. Green Arrow opens fire without success and is forced to dodge when Tea responds with heat vision. He's buried in rubble and when Kara tries to go to his aid, Tea smashes her to the ground.

The Question smashes through the front door of NuvoGen.

Kara and Tea battle it out while the Question finds Green Arrow. They move in as Tea admits she doesn't know whom she ultimately works for. However, she has to eliminate Kara. The Question points out that Tea has been setting up the whole thing to eliminate Kara, whose conscience has been lapsing over into her. It interfered with her work so she set out to eliminate Kara. Tea denies it and the Question dares her to kill him. She hesitates... and Kara smashes her down.

In an office, a shadowy bald figure watches the battle on a security monitor.

The hologram chamber erupts in flame and Tea screams that she can do it. Whoever is directing the attack ignores her. Kara flies Green Arrow and the Question out as the building goes up in flames.

Later on the Watchtower, Kara reports to Dr. Hamilton that they never found the clone. She asks him if the DNA sample came from his lab, but he insists all genetic material was destroyed after the surgery. The Question believes that the government wants a super-being that they can control.

Tea is in a hidden chamber, recovering from her injuries. Dr. Hamilton tends to her wounds and tells her to recover... and calls her Galatea.
