The Greatest Story Never Told - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Superhero Booster Gold assures a crowd that he's committed to the fight against evil after defeating a robot. The crowd has no idea who he is, so Booster Gold has his robot sidekick Skeets run a promotional video. The crowd is less than thrilled, except for one child who mistakes him for Green Lantern. Back on the Watchtower, Booster Gold asks J'onn to assign him to a high-profile mission, and is eager to promote himself. J'onn notes it's that attitude that's holding him back. They're interrupted when Wonder Woman sends a mayday of a major attack by Mordru in Metropolis, a powerful villain. Booster is eager to hear there's someone major for him to fight.

As Mordru smashes down Superman, J'onn calls in all available heroes. J'onn finally sends down Booster Gold, who is eager to promote himself. He teleports with the others to Metropolis, where black shadow creatures are attacking the crowd. Batman assigns Booster and Elongated Man to crowd control, and Booster Gold is less than thrilled. Wonder Woman arrives and calls Elongated Man in, leaving Booster Gold behind. The futuristic hero continues to carry out his duties, albeit less than enthusiastically. Skeets insists that crowd control can be a rewarding experience. They're interrupted when a grotesquely merged Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman crash down in front of him, and order him to stay on crowd control.

A young boy comes up to Booster and asks him to save his aunts. Booster flies in to the flaming building to save the boy's family, only to discover he meant "ants" and the boy still thinks he's Green Lantern. He figures that fame is never going to happen for him. Skeets vehemently disagrees, and they're interrupted when an earthquake threatens nearby STAR labs. He goes to the rescue and looks for one missing scientist, Dr. Simmons. He finds her unconscious on the floor and revives her. She tells him that she's been experimenting with an alternate black-hole energy source and requires power to maintain. The disaster has released the energy and could destroy all worlds. She explains that her boss, Dr. Brown, was caught in the power source's explosion. Dr. Brown is now a walking black hole

J'onn is trying to coordinate the League's efforts when Booster calls him, but the Martian cuts him off, assuming Booster is complaining. Booster bluffs that J'onn told him to handle it on his own. Dr. Simmons has a gravity inhibitor that they need to get around Brown's neck. They head down the street, following the trail of destruction. Booster flies after the scientist. Meanwhile, Mordru smashes through the heroes with relative ease. He sends a car flying, and it slams down on Booster Gold. Meanwhile, Brown's gravitational pull continues to pull in everything in sight, and Booster is forced to blast through the resulting debris. Next he absorbs two EMTs dealing with a pregnant woman. Booster tries to help while Dr. Simmons takes the collar and goes after her boss. With some help from Skeets, Booster manages to deliver the baby.

Booster flies off after Simmons and Brown while blaming himself for putting Simmons in danger. They notice the black hole attracting more debris and fly to the subway where Brown is located. Simmons is being pulled in and Booster rescues her just in time. He uses an energy blast to seal the subway tunnel before he's pulled in as well. She starts to kiss him... and Skeets interrupts to tell them where Brown is. Booster take the collar and goes after Brown, and is almost hit by a subway car that's pulled into Brown. Booster prepares to move in... and another subway car runs him over. Booster admits he's no superhero and goes back to Simmons. Skeets determines Brown is reaching critical mass.

Booster prepares to move in, but a stray magical blast from Mordru animates a nearby building. It attacks Simmons and Booster tries to drive it back. It smashes him down and Brown redirects his gravitational forces at the building. Skeets is pulled in and Booster flies through the building as it's pulled in as well. Brown reaches critical mass and Simmons tells a disheartened Booster that he can do it. He explains he was a failure in the future but she tells him he's the only one who can do it. Booster takes the collar and lets himself be pulled toward Brown. As the entire city starts to be pulled in, Booster is pulled halfway into Brown... and attaches the collar. The scientist is restored to normal and collapses, then expels everything that he absorbed, including Skeets. Dr. Simmons notes he was pretty superheroic, but Booster just walks away despite the fact Skeets noted he had the chance to kiss the girl. Booster admits kissing the girl is for heroes... and he isn't

Later, the heroes have defeated Mordru thanks to Elongated Man's incredible brilliant tactical move. Booster watches from a distance as Batman approaches him and blames him for not staying on crowd control. Booster tries to explain but is overwhelmed, and Batman promises they'll have a chat later. Dr. Simmons approaches him and assures him that she knows who he is, and suggests they have dinner. Booster bids Elongated Man goodbye and leaves with the damsel.
