I have mixed feelings about the episode. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. The plot wasn't anything overly exciting or original, and it seemed like WAY too much was crammed into the hour.
But the actors were outstanding. Anthony Anderson does a brilliant job during the episode and is the perfect actor for a cop role.
I was afraid, however, that the writers would exploit Katrina or New Orleans, but there wasn't too much hidden social commentary one way or the other. They scenes and their likeness to post-Katrina New Orleans looked stunningly similar. Despite the amazing actors and the equally amazing set, the plot fell short. But since this is the pilot, there's a huge chance that the series will improve, and with all the potential that it has, I hope it does.
