Karen becomes enraged when she finds out that Richard was going to pay off the hitchhiker, so she would drop the charges. Eventually, Karen remembers a vital clue that might prove Richard's innocence. Meanwhile, Abby decides that she will move to Knots Landing.

Val decides to start college after all. Richard is convinced that a prestigious Chicago law firm will hire him, so he tells off his boss and quits his job. However, he soon regrets it after he finds out what his salary will be at the Chicago job.
