Ernst Stockinger [Episodes 1 to 30], played by Karl Markovics

As Ernst Stockinger, he added a touch of gentle humour to the Vienna Murder Squad. Initially he was terrified of Rex who sensed this and thus he became the butt of many of Rex's jokes.

Stockinger was brilliantly portrayed by Karl Markovics, and for a short while he appeared in his own program. Called simply 'Stockinger' it was an offshoot of 'Kommissar Rex' and was extremely popular for the relatively short time that it was on the air.

Rex [Episodes 1-63], played by Santo vom Haus Zieglmayer

Santo vom Haus Zieglmayer played Rex from 1994-1997. Known in real life as Beejay, he was trained by the distinguished animal trainer Teresa Ann Miller who, together with her father Karl Lewis Miller, runs the company 'Animal Action' - one of the most successful animal training schools in the world. The Millers have been awarded with numerous 'Patsys' (the animal Oscars of America) in recognition of their work with animals. Rex's "real name" or "kennel name" for the series was Reginald von Ravenhorst.

Dr. Leo Graf [Episode 1 to 122 (entire series)], played by Gerhard Zemann

Gerhard Zemann was the only actor to appear in the entire series of Kommissar Rex. He played Police surgeon, Dr. Leo Graf who had a weakness for havana cigars and a tendency to force some gruesome sights onto the members of the Vienna murder squad. He has a very dry sense of humour, and was probably most at ease with Richard Moser. With the arrival of Alex Brandtner, he enforced the use of the slightly more formal "Sie" form of address, but eventually relented until the team was addressing him with the informal "Servus" instead of the formal "Guten Morgen". He is pictured with Tobias Moretti who played Inspector Richard Moser.

Max Koch [Episode 1 to 49], played by Fritz Muliar

Max Koch is a retired Police Officer who had prevented a youthful Richard Moser from turning to a life of crime by encouraging him to join the Police Force instead. He still acts very much as a father figure to Moser, and to Rex also.

Peter Höllerer, played by Wolf Bachofner

Wolf Bachofner created the role of Peter Höllerer, one of the members of the Vienna Murder Squad, who worked mainly with Richard Moser and Ernst Stockinger. He is a very warm hearted man and an efficient Police Officer who always gets results when they are needed. He speaks with an extremely thick Viennese accent, and can be difficult to understand at times. Höllerer eventually left the Squad to run a pub with his elderly mother. He is pictured on the far left of the picture with colleagues from the Vienna Murder Squad Richard Moser, Ernst Stockinger and, of course, Rex.

Rex, played by Henry (1)

Henry, like Santo vom Haus Zieglmayer and Rhett Butler whose photographs are featured behind him in this particular pic (see larger gallery image), was trained by Teresa Ann Miller. Henry takes on the role of Rex in the Italian series of Kommissar Rex.

Alexander Brandtner [Episodes 50 to 94], played by Gedeon Burkhard

Alex Brandtner was introduced to the series after Richard Moser's departure. Gedeon Burkhard made his debut as Brandtner in the episode 'The New Guy', although he had earlier guest-starred as a villain in the episode 'Amok'.

Rex [Episodes 64-122], played by Rhett Butler

Rhett Butler took over the role of Rex when Santo vom Haus Zieglmayer retired at about the age of 6 years. He had earlier made his debut in the full length feature film 'Baby Rex: The Little Inspector' as a puppy.

Like Santo, Rhett was trained by Teresa Ann Miller.

As can be seen from the image, Rhett was a slightly lighter colour than Santo.

Christian Böck [Episodes 31 to 94], played by Heinz Weixelbraun

Heinz Weixelbraun created the character of Christian Böck in the third series of Kommissar Rex, and thus worked for a while with Tobias Moretti as Richard Moser.

After Moser's departure, Böck was partnered with Gedeon Burkhard's Brandtner and the two made a successful team together.

Fritz Kunz, played by Martin Weinek

Martin Weinek's character of Fritz Kunz was that of an amiable and overweight plodder who was nevertheless very sharp-witted behind the bumbling and fussy facade. He has a weakness for wearing his shoulder holster, complete with revolver, even while working at his desk.

Kunz worked with Brandtner's team, and later with the Marc Hoffman and Nikki Herzog teaming. He was later to appear in the Italian series of Kommissar Rex.

Marc Hoffmann [Episode 95 to 122], played by Alexander Pschill

Alexander Pschill as Marc Hoffmann. Initially he was teamed romantically with Elke Winkens as Niki Herzog, but finally the producers of the show came to their senses when they realised that the winning formula for Kommissar Rex was a male detective with a police dog, with the occasional romantic dalliance on the side, not a permanent love interest.

Niki Herzog, played by Elke Winkens

Elke Winkens as Niki Herzog. While working at the Vienna Police Department she had a relationship with Marc, and was the first female to be introduced into the show as a member of the Vienna Polizei. She appears to have more brains than Marc, and is successful at her job.
