Subject: • NZ Wonder Dog's Owner To Get His Award
George, the brave Jack Russell terrier who defended a group of children from attack by two pitbulls, will be posthumously awarded Britain's highest award for animal bravery next week.

George's owner Alan Gay of New Zealand will be presented with the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals of the Poor Gold Medal by the British High Commissioner on Wednesday in the small Taranaki town of Manaia.

The medal is Britain's top award for animals and has never been conferred on an animal outside of the UK before.

George will be awarded the medal recognising his bravery in May 2007 in saving four children from two pit bulls intent on attacking them.

He was so badly injured by the other dogs he had to be put down.

George has also received posthumous accolades from the SPCA and American Jerrell Hudman, who sent the terrier his Purple Heart from the Vietnam War.

RIP George.

I just heard a story yesterday about a woman who was walking her dogs walked up to an area in the woods which had a bear den. She immediately turned to run and was attacked. The bear nearly destroyed her face which has caused her to have many face surgeries. She was saved by one of her dogs who fended off the bear while she and the other injured dog got away. Luckily, they were able to save one dog but loss the other. Dogs are just so loyal to us.
