Even if he goes crazy, I will still call Chris "Superman"

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- NBC's casino drama "Las Vegas" is set to return for a fifth season in the fall without two of its stars, James Caan and Nikki Cox.

Caan wants to return to movies, while Cox's departure is said to stem from budget cuts. The show boasts a large ensemble cast and has moved from Mondays to Fridays, where viewership levels are lower.

Caan, Oscar-nominated for his turn as Sonny Corleone in "The Godfather," made his first foray into TV series with "Las Vegas," in which he plays the surveillance boss at a casino.

"I've had a wonderful four years, worked with great people and made friends for life working on 'Las Vegas,' but I'm eager to return to where my heart is, which is film, and due to the show's schedule, I missed some great opportunities to do that," Caan said. "I wish the show and everyone involved with it continued success."

f***in' crapty. the fifth season will undoubtedly be the last then. heck, they only went 17 episodes this season. the show is mostly caan anyway. i can't imagine the montecito without him. his character adds so much to the show with his cia background and such.

as for mary, they have been trying to do something with her character ever since she turned down danny's wedding proposal in season 2, with no avail. she's been nothing more than a recurring character for sometime. while i'll miss the twins... a lot, the show can definitely go on without her.

Yep. The show will sink into the toilet without Ed. Mary can be replaced by another set of boobs, but I think James Caan carries the show a LOT.

Anyway, once I saw last night's show, with Ed's wife nagging him to retire, and when you mentioned that they were only running 17 episodes this season, I did a little research - I knew it wasn't gonna be good. Damn.

i cannot agree more. the rest of the cast can't carry his jock, non-the-less this show.

Sometimes I think Caan was the only thing making the show remotely believable. It was so silly and over-the-top (which I loved) but Caan kept it anchored with his tough-guy act.

Look at me, I'm already using the past tense to describe the show.

I would of been more disappointed if Vanessa Marcil and Josh Duhamel had left the show.
