Episode Notes
George Cleveland ("Gramps") died shortly before this episode went into production. The producers initially planned to have Gramps suffer a severe accident that would require his total retirement from the heavy work on the farm.

Jeff will attend The Science High School and Ellen will give music lessons when the Millers move to Capitol City. Ellen's mother lives in Capitol City, ("The Lion" 01x08).

Last appearance: Tommy Rettig as Jeff Miller.

The producers didn't want to risk Jon's life when Timmy was required to run into the lake at the end of the episode. Stan Livingston (who later starred as Chip in My Three Sons) performed the stunt.

In this episode, Paul says he flew 22 missions -- presumably in WWII. In another episode, we learn Paul was stationed in England.

Episode Quotes
Doc Weaver: (as Jeff passes by) That's the man of the family now.

Timmy: God bless Aunt Ellen, and Jeff, and Lassie, and Porky, and Pokey, and Domino, and Lucky.

Pokey is Porky's basset hound, Domino is Jeff's horse, Lucky is a burro.

Ellen: I suppose we should be thankful that it happened the way that it did.

Ellen is speaking of Gramps' death but it is never stated how Gramps died.

Ellen: (embracing Timmy) Oh, you little wiggle-worm!

Cultural References
Ruth: This little fish's name was Leander and he couldn't swim a stroke.

Leander was a character from Greek mythology who drowned while swimming the Hellespont. Ruth is familiar with classical authors.

Episode References
Ellen: I was going to call Miss Beauvard at the child welfare agency today but, well ...

Miss Beauvard is a social worker for the child welfare agency in Capitol City. Ellen conferred with Miss Beauvard and Timmy's elderly guardians about Timmy's situation in "The Runaway" 04x01.

Jeff: He'd probably cut through the woods like last time.

Timmy ran away from the Miller farm in his debut episode "The Runaway" 04x01. He fled through the north woods.
