Sneakers - Recap

Lassie walks a forest trail followed by Sneakers, a gray kitten. They stroll along a stream bank. The kitten dawdles and Lassie barks "Come along!" The kitten scoots after Lassie.

The kitten peers up a tree on the stream bank. An owl sits overhead on a branch. The kitten climbs the tree and steps onto the owl's branch,. Lassie watches apprenhensively. The owl flaps its wings as a warning to the curious kitten. The kitten cowers and then falls from the branch into the stream. Lassie swims to its rescue. The owl laughs from above. On the bank, Lassie and the kitten shake themselves dry, catch their breaths then hurry off.

Clouds gather. Thunder is heard and lightning crackles. It begins to rain. Lassie picks up the kitten and carries him to a hollow log. They both bed down to wait out the storm. After a bit, the rain stops and the clouds part. The forest animals -- deer, rabbits, raccoons, and squirrels -- come out to feed in the sunshine.

Picnic trash is seen floating in the stream. Lassie hurries along the bank. She pauses to survey a picnic area littered with trash. Sneakers scurries along in Lassie's footsteps.

A bear cub snacks from a picnic area trash can. Lassie knows the little fellow has made the mess and chases him off. Lassie begins gathering the trash and carries it to the trash cans. Sneakers prowls about.

Lassie discovers a smoldering campfire. She throws dirt on it, smothering the embers. The forest is now safe. Sneakers plays hide and seek among the trash and gets his head stuck in a paper container. Lassie rescues him. "Come along!" she barks.

Lassie and Sneakers stroll along a shady path. Suddenly a wild pig approaches. Lassie does battle and, although tossed about by the pig, drives it off. Sneakers runs away frightened.

Lassie looks for her little friend. She picks up Sneakers' scent and runs after him. She calls for him but Sneakers hides in the tall grass and cries. Lassie finds and comforts him. Then the two set off again.

The friends cross a meadow. Sneakers plays in the grass. Lassie spots a deep gorge ahead. A rickety foot-bridge is the only way to cross it. A bear approaches growling. He looks hungry! Lassie urges Sneakers along.

The bear gets closer and Lassie wonders if the bridge will hold. A snarling bobcat approaches. Lassie realizes she has no choice but to make an attempt to cross the gorge by using the rickety foot-bridge.

She picks Sneakers up and inch by inch she makes her way over the bridge. A rope holding the bridge snaps but Lassie makes it safely to the other side of the gorge and places her little friend in the grass. She looks back to see the bridge collapse and fall into the gorge. She picks Sneakers up and sets off.

Lassie carries Sneakers along a dirt road. She sees a house ahead. There are children's bicycles, a wagon, and toys scattered about. A dog sleeps on the steps. A hen and her chicks sit in the sun. Lassie looks once at Sneakers. She sees he is safe and quite content so she trots to the house to get a closer look.

The sleepy dog rises and greets Lassie. A mother cat winks from the porch while her kittens drink from a dish of milk. Lassie knows this is the perfect home for Sneakers. The sleepy dog and Lassie have a discussion all about Sneakers. Lassie brings Sneakers to the mother cat and her kittens. Sneakers is welcomed and makes himself at home. Lassie says good bye and hurries away. The sleepy dog barks farewell.

Lassie runs down the dirt road to the strains of "I know where I going" and disappears in the distance; the good dog's 17 years with CBS are ended.
