Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Curtis (Benjamin Bratt) are thrown into a search for a disturbed killer when a murdered mailman and a severely tortured woman, hanging on for her life, are found. They arrest a serial killer who confesses to the crimes and is eager to make a deal to avoid the death penalty, but Assistant District Attorneys McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Carmichael (Angie Harmon) find themselves in a moral dilemma when they discover that the wrong killer is in custody. S. Epatha Merkerson and Steven Hill also star.
