Wet - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
A man and woman run out of a building to an open space. She tells him to
do his cabbage patch dance, and when he does, she mimics him. He tells
her to stop, and she mocks him. She throws off her dress and runs, and
he follows her, laughing. They see a woman's body in the water.

Coroner says death by drowning, hard to do in a foot of water. Benson
says not if somebody knocks you out or holds you under. Estimated time
of death is around 4:00 a.m. Liv guesses that the fountain washed away
all the evidence, but the lab lady says she has blood and semen in her
hoochy-hoo.

Liv asks Ell if he got anything out of skinny and dipper. He says yeah,
the guy can't stop staring at her ass, and she can't wait to never see
him again. The coroner shows them that the perp cut off a chunk of the
victim's hair, so he can use it to remember the highs of the crime.

Stabler and Benson walk into the temporary precinct that they hope is
permanent. Ell is hoping the old building is condemned, and Liv notes
that this place is closer to his home. Fin comes out and says that
there's a perp hanging out in the park where the woman was murdered, he
cuts off chunks of hair from women. They go to the park in question, and
Olivia entices him. Elliot arrests him just as he's about to do damage
to Liv's hair. They find a hank of blond hair on him. He claims that the
girl in the fountain was already dead when he cut her hair. Liv says she
wasn't dead when he raped her. He claims he has a lullaby, he was at a
club all night. He got a lap dance at a transvestite night club. Elliot
informs him that's an alibi, not lullaby.

Munch announces he tried to arrive for work at the old precinct. Liv
asks him if there have been any hits on Jane Doe's prints, and he says
no. His computer keeps getting knocked offline while the electricians
are getting everything up and running. Munch trips over a chair and gets
angry, saying it all goes to hell when Cragen's gone. He and Liv go in
the media room and look up prints. The hair cutting dude's alibi holds,
and they're back to nothing.

The new ADA walks in and introduces herself, Mikka Von. She says she has
DNA from the semen inside the victim. It's a partial match to a woman,
which means her brother would be the perp. She's doing performance art
when Ell & Liv arrive. She won't break character to speak with them so
Ell breaks her concentration. They tell Monica it's about her brother,
and a woman. She asks if he hurt her, that he always thought his trust
fund would protect him no matter how far he went. She aims them at a
brownstone on 75th and 5th.

Elliot is questioning Witt Worley, and he jokingly says he'd rather be
with Liv. He asks Elliot what "Blondie" had to say about him, and when
he sees her body's photo, he says wait, whoa; they had sex, he didn't
rape and murder her. Elliot asked her real name, and he said that she
never said, she just came up to him near the reservoir and told him she
was hot and wet. He insists it was consensual, she even removed her
tampon before they did it. Elliot asks where the tampon is and he says
that Killer (his dachshund) ate it. He even had to take him to the vet.

Elliot says "your dog ate your homework? Your alibi gets an 'F'." Witt
says he has video proof, he has a following on sexprowl.com, it's the
Youtube of sex. Fin states that the emergency vet says Killer didn't
cough up the Kotex until 6:00 a.m., so he's got an alibi. They had sex,
that was it.

Mikka introduces herself to Fin and asks him to go get the victim's
purse out of the bushes near the reservoir.

A gentleman arrives at the precinct and asks Elliot if it's his case
(pointing at the video onscreen). Elliot says yes, and the guy swings at
him. He's instantly subdued by Stabler and a couple of officers.
Somebody emailed him the video. His name is Greg Elding. The victim was
his wife.

Munch questions him. Lindsay, his wife, is head of PR for Colanow, the
soda company. Greg tells Munch that Lindsay is a recovering addict;
cocaine. She was obviously high in the video, and he doesn't know why
she was acting that way. When Ell arrives to say that Elding has an
alibi, Greg apologizes for attacking him. Stabler asks who could have
sent him the video, and Greg says no clue, but doing PR for Colanow has
made Lindsay a lot of enemies.

A rep of Colanow says that they're different than cigarettes, they don't
force their soda down anybody's throats. Munch points out that was the
same arguement cigarette companies used, and they lost. The rep says
Lindsay was sexy and smart, and she charmed the neanderthals on the
other side.

Fin is questioning a very angry man. He said they were about to pass a
tax on soda when that "get off the couch" campaign killed it. He says
that was Lindsay Elding's brainchild. Fin points out that people should
exercise more. He agrees, but says Lindsay distracted everyone from the
simple fact that soda is bad for kids. He refers Fin to Davie Gams'
mother. She says that Davie took his life when he was 12. She tried to
get him to stop with the cola, but he was addicted. They would have won
their case, but Lindsey built a club for kids to work out at, and the
jury found against them. Elliot asks the couch at the Colanow gym what
he thinks of Lindsay, and he says she's a hero.

Lindsay's tox screen comes back clear, but Liv says that doesn't test
for PCP. Maybe she thought she could breathe underwater. Maybe it was an
accident. Huang comes in and says it was no accident. Lindsay was
poisoned with a South American mushroom. They contain a high level of
muscarin, which leaves you hot, sweaty and sexually aroused. Liv notes
that would explain how she wound up with a jerk like Witt Worley. Huang
says even if she hadn't been in the pool, she would have died; muscarin
toxicity leads to respiratory failure. Dialing back her digestive clock
would mean they were ingested around dinner time. Liv checks her
calendar and finds she was at a fundraiser called Wishing Time.

Stabler and Benson go talk to the woman in charge of Wishing Time,
Francine Brooks. Liv sees a photo of the dinner, and notes that there
were mushrooms on Lindsay's salad. Mrs. Brooks calls out for her
granddaughter Emma, saying that there were no mushrooms served that
night. Emma tells the detectives that she met Lindsay in rehab. Her
grandmother tells her there's no need to air the dirty laundry. She
tells the detectives that Emma's parents died when she was 10. As they
are running through all the photos, they see the mushrooms were only on
Lindsay's salad.

One shot shows an angry man being removed by security. Emma thinks he
was a homeless guy, but Francine says no, he accosted Lindsay. When
Elliot asks why, she says it was about Bolivia, oddly enough. He kept
ranting "You can't own the rain." It didn't make any sense. Munch says
it makes plenty of sense. Water is free, but places like Colanow buy the
rights, bottle the free water and sell it for $2 a bottle. There's a
blog about it, and the blogger is the angry man. His name is Vincent
Prochik, Professor of Mycology - and he specializes in toxic South
American mushrooms. He is the voice of the Water Rights Conservation
Movement.

Elliot & Olivia arrive, calling his name. When they get his attention,
Liv is standing over a pot that emits steam into her face. They bring
him in for questioning. He says Lindsay Eldings wants to privatize
water, a resource that belongs to everyone. He's glad she's dead. Olivia
tells him that she has a daughter, who will now grow up without a dad.
Liv rapidly stops making any sense. Professor Prochik recognizes what's
happening to her. Liv passes out, landing in Elliot's arms.

Huang greets her when she wakes up in the hospital. He tells her that
Vincent Prochik was boiling toxic mushrooms when they arrested him in
his lab. The effects are temporary. She asks if he confessed to murder
yet. Huang says he's talking Elliot's ear off, but he won't answer any
questions until he knows Liv is okay. She returns to the interrogation
room, and Prochik tells her he's glad she's okay. He continues to ramble
on about man's inhumanity to nature. The subtle and the gross. Water is
subtle, profits are gross. Liv has a humdinger of a headache, and his
yelling is really not helping any.

The ADA is listening in. She asks Huang why Prochik didn't get sick from
the mushroom vapor. George tells her Prochik built up a tolerance from
years of exposure. She asks if that explains the fixation on water and
the unusual speech patterns. George questions if she's asking if
Prochik's attorney might go for an insanity defense. George says Prochik
is odd, but sane.

Dave Seaver introduces himself to Mikka. The museum called Vincent
Prochik's sister after he was arrested, and she retained him as counsel.
He remembers her from Chicago, and asks when he might chat with his
client. She tells him at arraignment. When they get there, Seaver says
he should be remanded, the evidence is circumstantial at best. The ADA
says that Prochik is a flight risk, with ties to organized crime in
Bolivia. Seaver says he's not a flight risk, because Prochik needs to
stay put for his mushrooms. The judge understands, as roses are his
passion. The defendant is to surrender his passport, and bail is set at
$250,000.

Elliot arrives to help Miss Von get through the press. She says she's
been there before, but he says not in New York. When the press closes in
on her, she references them to Vincent, and gives them a hint; it's
about water. When they arrive, he starts talking, despite his attorney's
advice to shut up. Liv gives a folder to ADA Von, telling her the
mushrooms in his lab are a genetic match for the ones that killed
Lindsay. Seaver comes in to talk a plea.

Emma and her grandmother come in with all the photos of all the guests
from the night Lindsay was poisoned. Emma says some were printed, some
are on her flash drive. Mrs. Brooks takes a couple of shots at Emma,
about never doing drugs and refusing to go to counseling with her and
"all those junkies". Prochik starts raging, and Mrs. Brooks hurries Emma
out. Liv says if she grew up with that, she'd do drugs, too.

ADA Von calls in Benson, and she asks what's going on. Seaver says
they're asserting a mental defect brought on by years of being exposed
to mushroom fumes. Prochik is furious: he's not crazy, and he won't be
labeled as such. He asks if he can fire his attorney, and Mikka says
yes. He fires Seaver, and Seaver tells him to sit down. Prochik asks if
exposure to cologne has made Seaver deaf. Seaver leaves, telling Prochik
he's made a big mistake. Prochik says he wants to change his plea. Liv
tells him he can't without legal representation. Von says they're in a
precinct, she's pretty sure she can find him an attorney.

He claims he put the mushrooms on Lindsay's platter. He wanted her dead,
because she wanted to privatize water. Stabler sees something which
leads him to tell the ADA to call a recess. She refused, so he
approached the bench himself. The judge refuses him, and orders him to
sit down. Elliot then feigns the same symptoms that Liv experienced.
They call him an ambulance, and he goes to the hospital. When Von
arrives, he tells her that Prochik said he dosed Lindsay with three
different kinds of mushrooms. The photos show four. A man like Prochik
wouldn't forget something like that. Ell asks her if she wants to
convict an innocent man her first case out of the gate, and she retorts
that she wants her first case not to make her look like a total flake.
She asks if he really thinks it wasn't Prochik, and he says he doesn't
know. He'd like more time to find out. Von gives him until 9:00 tomorrow
morning to convince her.

Everybody is going over the pictures from the night Lindsay died, even
ADA Von. At 7:51, a time-stamped photo indicates there was nothing on
Lindsay's salad. By 8:02, they are there. The only people who approached
Lindsay's table in that time frame were Francine and Emma Brooks, and
Lindsay's boss. Phil McPeal from the athletic center, and none of the
others have been identified as yet.

ADA Von gets a call and calls it a night. She said they don't have
anything different, she's moving ahead with the case. When Stabler calls
her on her attitude, she says she wants to get something straight. They
are the pots and pans. She is the chef.

The next day in court, the defense attorney doesn't show up. The case is
postponed. As Stabler and Von are leaving, they run into Cragen. ADA Von
introduces herself, and Cragen says it was nice knowing her. Her boss
called; he's tied up and asked Cragen to deliver a message. Pack your
bags, you're going back to Chicago. She says she's being fired by proxy.
He tells her that when she sent the defense attorney on vacation, that
was an unacceptable dirty trick.

Stabler brings Benson up-to-date on ADA Von. Apparently, they're
deposing some hotshot out of Brooklyn. They confront Prochik with the
knowledge that he didn't kill Lindsay. Ell asks him why he confessed to
a murder he didn't commit. He said he did it for the cause. They show
him all the photos of people near Lindsay's table, and asked if any of
them had come through his lab. He said no to everybody, but hesitated at
Emma. He said sorry, nobody and asked them to leave. As they are
leaving, they see Prochik leave and follow him. He tells Emma they had
her photo, and she tells him to leave. He tells her he didn't say
anything. Elliot confronts Vincent with claiming he didn't know her, and
Liv reminds Emma that she said he was just some homeless guy. Francine
Brooks enters and asks her granddaughter if she knows Prochik.

Liv is interrogating Prochik, and Emma is being questioned by Elliot.
The mushrooms used to kill Lindsay were found in Emma's apartment.
Stabler asks how she met the professor. He tells Liv that Emma came to
their water rights group. Prochik tells Liv that Lindsay was quietly
buying land in upstate New York and selling the water rights to Colanow.
Lindsay cozied up to Francine and got her to sell the estate. Emma
begged her not to sell the land, but she wouldn't listen. Francine
idolized Lindsay, but saw Emma as a rehab screw-up. Liv discovers that
Prochik loves Emma, and that's why he was pleading guilty. Emma says she
didn't kill Lindsay. Emma tells Vincent she's sorry. He understands.
Emma admits that she killed Lindsay. Liv tells him it wasn't about the
water, it was about revenge. Emma ingests the mushrooms in the hope of
dying, but they pumped her stomach. Her grandmother comes to see her,
just to tell her she was no longer her grandchild. Francine throws every
wrong thing Emma's ever done in her face, and tells her she will inherit
nothing. She's going to give the necklace that's been in their family
for five generations, to Lindsay's daughter. She leaves. Prochik shows
up with flowers, for Emma. He loves her. Nobody's perfect.
