Penetration - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Olivia is asleep on the couch. Someone approaches her, holding a gun.
It's her new ward, Calvin, and he shoots her with a water pistol. She
grabs it and returns fire, sending Calvin off to bed.

FBI Agent Dana Lewis arrives with a request. She wants Benson to run a
test on her rape kit, but idenify it as Jane Doe.

Benson and Stabler fill Cragen in on the specifics. Dana is working in
an undercover operation. She can't tell the feds for fear they will pull
her from the case. For that reason, they can't contact her, but she
promised Olivia she will stay in touch.

The detectives take a meeting with Dana. She is unamused that Liv
brought Elliot along. She doesn't want an investigation, she just wants
the results of the lab report. She begrudgingly agrees to give them the
address where the rape took place, and they can meet here there.

The rape took place in Dana's own apartment. She's married with
children, the kids are with their dad in DC. She describes how her
attacker disabled her with a paralytic injection, that left her unable
to call for help. After he left and once the drug wore off, she did her
own rape kit. She wants to return to work immediately. They are
uncomfortable with the thought, but she doesn't care. Elliot finally
says either they come along, or they will rat her out to her boss. Dana
says they can come along but they better lay low and blend in. If they
blow her cover, she will send them home crying to their momma.

At Park 51, there's a demonstration taking place in opposition to
constructing a mosque there. Benson makes a remark that will antagonize
the group. She and Dana play off of each other. Dana uses the crowd to
dump Liv & Ell. Bad move, since she is immediately abducted. Liv gets a
picture of the van’s plates.

Back at the precinct, Fin informs Stabler that the vehicle is registered
to David Worthy from Akron. A BOLO has gone out to inform, not
apprehend. Cragen refuses to tell Fin and Munch what this case is
about. Munch is irked. He says that Worthy is on 6 watch lists. He is a
high-ranking person in the Sovereign Citizen’s Brigade, which an
anti-government group. One of their members, acting independently, took
out an IRS agent. Cragen has Fin call Elliot back and inform them who
they are up against.

The detectives arrive at the location at which the van was discovered,
burned and abandoned. A female officer saw the van and decided to follow
it. Liv reiterates that she was supposed to notify, not follow. She says
it was her call.

There's a male body on the driver’s side, burned to a crisp. The
trooper identifies Worthy's picture from Elliot's phone as the driver.
She was so far back that she didn't know they'd pulled off the road, so
she passed them. She then saw the explosion in her rear view mirror.
There were six occupants; six males, one female. By the time she got
back there, all but the crispy driver were gone.

At FBI headquarters, Benson and Stabler tell an FBI agent that he needs
to pull Dana Lewis out of the SCB investigation. They bring him
up-to-date on the case, but he can't help them. Dana left the Bureau
over over a year ago.

Once outside, Live & Ell wonder who Dana is doing work for. They believe
she's playing them but opt to contact their resident expert on paranoid
conspiracy theorists: John Munch.

Fin and Munch arrive at a workshop being held by Tom Marshall, head of
the SCB. Marshall is discussing a secret identity we all have which was
created at birth. It's known as the “straw man”, and is linked to an
account at the Treasury Department. The government uses these accounts
as collateral on foreign debt. Munch chimes in and states that should
you file the correct paperwork in the proper offices, those funds can be
yours. Fin asks how he can break his shackles. As Marshall clarifies
accomplishing this, Fin and Munch take control of the seminar and tell
the attendees that this is a scam. Fin gets out his badge, and they
arrest Marshall for fraud.

Back at the precinct,, Elliot questions Marshall about Worthy. He
mentions that a Federal Agent has been kidnapped. Marshall states that
Worthy began to sound insane on his blog, saying the time for
non-violence was past. This isn't the way the SCB operates.Marshall says
Worthy located someone who would go with the violence. Later, Stabler,
Munch and Fin tell Cragen about Patriots Against Tyranny. PAT is
stockpiling weapons. Fin does a little digging and finds their Staten
Island compound.

When Benson and Stabler arrive, the find the police and FBI are already
there. Bodies are everywhere. In addition, they see the same FBI Agent
they spoke to about Dana. They're angry that he lied about Dana. He
tells them they never gave him the code. No code, no information. If
Dana wanted them informed, she would have given it to them. They are
interfering with a federal investigation. Benson recognizes the man from
the alley who pushed Dana into the vehicle. He's dead on the pavement.
The agent tells Ell and Liv that their surveillance blew Dana's cover.
They had to get her out. She was stuck when the raid took place and now
she's inside the house. They fear she's dead. Not only is she very much
alive, but she's also seriously annoyed with them. The van explosion
wouldn't have happened if the state trooper hadn't followed them. They
needed a dead cop. The death of the trooper would have ensured that they
had more cops to blow up at the funerals. Dana was able to stop them by
reminding them that all the PATs were expected to be there when the
spark was lit, but they were several people short. Had the raid
transpired as planned, the big boys from out west would've been present.
When Worthy pulled out, he accidentally hit his brights. They assumed he
was signaling to the trooper, and they all headed for the compound. She
is angry that she wiped out three people that she intended to bring in
alive. She asks the detectives for her lab results and informs them that
they are to direct all the data to the FBI, since they are going to be
managing it.

Back at the precinct, Liv refuses to hand the evidence over. Elliot
tells her to let it go; Dana will never cooperate. Munch tells them they
must get Dana in immediately. They discovered an additional rape case
that is similar to Dana’s. The victim was named Jennifer Briggs, an
accountant. She's dead.

Back at the FBI, they talk to Dana while she pushes papers. They notify
her there's another victim, but this one is deceased. They offer her the
lab report which had no DNA. They inform Dana that they have to work the
pattern. They won't be able to do that without her. She recommends they
discuss it somewhere else. When they show Dana the picture of Jennifer,
she doesn't know or recognize her. She suggests that since Jennifer was
employed in the diamond district, maybe she was found stealing diamonds
from her boss, Kauffman Fine Jewelers. Jennifer’s fingers were broken.
They speculate that the rapist had a closer link with Jennifer, as he
appeared more angry with her. Dana recollects her attacker holding her
hand and saying “You’re just lucky you never did anything to piss me off.”

At the store, Munch and Fin talk to the owner. He tells them that
Jennifer was a model person. She wasn’t involved with anyone and spent
her time doing charity work for many organizations. She used to write to
prisoners. She went through a pen pal program that only reached out to
Jewish inmates.

Back at SVU, Munch and Fin tell the team that Jennifer corresponded via
Project Mitzvah. She corresponded with eight prisoners. Dana does not
recognize the names. Three of the eight are out. As they examine the
records, the most likely match is Seth Coleman. However, they can't find
a connection between Seth and Dana.

At the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Munch and Fin discover
that Seth was a jailhouse convert to the Aryan brotherhood. He was quite
difficult to place, because he was a sex offender. Stabler and Benson
take a look at one of the possible locations. Dana is there and she
appears to be following them. Elliot sees Coleman strolling down the
street toward them. Coleman spots them and runs. Dana gives chase on her
motorcycle as Liv and Elliot race to catch up on foot. They see Dana's
parked bike, so they enter the building, guns drawn. Dana and Coleman
have each other at gunpoint. Dana taunts him, but he makes a wise
decision to drop the gun. This further angers Dana. She shoots at him,
purposely missing. But the bullet ricochets off a beam, hitting Elliot.

Dana arrives in Elliot's hospital room , bearing flowers and apologies.
She announces that she's been suspended without pay. Elliot chastises
her. Coleman confessed to the rape and murder of Jennifer Briggs. They
have his DNA.

Benson interrogates Coleman. He denies raping Dana. He says Jennifer
deserved it, she ceased communicating with Coleman when he requested
nude pictures. He claims he only hung out with neo-Nazi’s for
protection. ADA Gillian Hardwicke asks Cragen where Benson is headed
with this line of questioning. She has only three hours before
arraignment. She believes that Munch and Fin would fare better than a
woman in this case. They take over and he's just as tight-lipped with
them as he was with Benson. He lawyers up.

Gillian tells Dana that Coleman rejected all pleas, so they are going to
trial. Dana is unwilling. Benson and Hardwicke try to be encouraging.
She just wants it all to go away. Liv tells her she won't find peace
until she gets through this.

Dana confronts Coleman and asks him for an explanation. He claims he
doesn't know Dana, but she continues to press. Benson tries to pull her
away. As she does so, Coleman whispers “ bye bye sweet dreams, I know I
will.”

In court, Dana breaks down on the stand. When she recounts the rapist
saying “you sure are a star” Benson picks up on it. The judge orders a
ten minute recess, and Liv touches base with Dana about the star
comment. They return to the precinct to try and put things together.
There's a mug shot of Brian Ackerman, Kyle Ackerman's father. Dana
killed Kyle to save Elliot in a courtroom shoot out. Back then, she was
using the alias Star Morrison. Brian ran the Revolution Aryan Warriors.
He met Coleman in Attica.

They go to Attica and confront Ackerman. Dana asks how much he paid
Coleman to find and rape her. He figures they can't do anything to him
anyway; he's already doing life in prison. Stabler tells him he'll get
solitary. He's fine with that, he'll just replay the rape in his mind.
Dana tells him she will go home to her loving husband and watch her kids
grow up. Unlike him, she will have a life. She turns and walks away.
