Three years ago, Lisa Moore is talking with her friend Trina when she collapses and dies.
Now, Lisa's sister Ashley meets with Dr. Roberts, who says he has some information about Lisa's death. Ashley gets a call from her number but there's no answer on the other end. When she turns back to Roberts, he's disappeared. Ashley notices a piece of paper Roberts left with the word Arcadia and some names. She also spots two men nearby and hits autodial on her phone. Their phone rings and she runs off. They follow her and Ashley bumps into Hardison as he comes out of the coffee shop. The men claim they're FBI, but Hardison realizes they're fakes. He also points out that they spilled coffee on Eliot. Eliot goes after them.
At the bar, Ashley meets with Nate and Hardison and explains that Lisa was on drug trials with JRP Pharmaceutical for a drug known as HT1. When she died, the company claimed Lisa was the only fatality and offered a settlement. Ashley convinced her parents not to take it and they tried to sue, but failed. As they talk and Hardison comforts Ashley, Parker watches him. Nate knows all about how the insurance company can avoid paying, and Ashley admits they couldn't find a lawyer to take an appeal. Roberts contact her but he's disappeared. Clearly smitten with Hardison, Ashley is happy they're taking her case. She gives Nate the list, and Hardison determines that it refers to the nearby town of Arcadia. There's nothing on the names because the files have been erased. Roberts lives there. Hardison goes to get a refill and Parker accuses Ashley of looking like a terrorist. Parker sits back down with Hardison and stares at Ashley, while Nate confirms that Roberts used to work with JRP. They were bought out by PallaGen Laboratories and Roberts was fired by the CEO, Darren Hoffman. Nate has Eliot check Roberts' house while Sophie and Parker go to Arcadia to investigate.
Eliot checks Roberts' home and finds his flash drive. He sends the files to Hardison, who confirms Roberts was meeting with Hoffman. Hoffman tried to pay Roberts $200,000, but Roberts didn't accept. Hoffman is a career executive at PallaGen, jumping from company to company to boost his personal profile. Eliot finds Roberts' corpse and confirms that he was poisoned and it was made to look like a heart attack. Sophie and Parker call in and tell the others that they've found the people on the list. They're all at the local cemetery, dead.
Later, Nate and Sophie go over the files and confirm that the other victims died of liver failure due to HT1 treatments. Hardison is with Ashley and Parker is helping, much to Sophie's surprise. Nate confirms that Hoffman erased all of the Arcadia files but couldn't wipe the newspaper articles. Roberts found out about the HT1 effects, and Hoffman tried to bribe him. When that failed, Hoffman had Roberts killed. They agree to use the double-blind scam.
Parker goes into PallaGen as a former cheerleader training as a sales representative for the release of their new drug, Vioplex. The plan is for her to break into Hoffman's office while Sophie pretends to be a FDA agent and meet with Hoffman. They have her replace the real FDA agent, Jennifer Pearson. Eliot pretends to be a PallaGen salesman, meets Jennifer in the lobby of PallaGen, and offers to show her around. He steals her badge and slips it to Sophie.
Sophie goes to see Hoffman and flirts with him. He takes the bait and offers to pay her consulting fees. Nate and Hardison realize that Hoffman is paying off FDA agents, doctors, and celebrities, and it's all legal. Sophie gets Hoffman out of his office and jams the electronic lock on his door. Once they're gone, Parker tries to get out of training. She ends up being mistaken for a volunteer and doesn't do well, and uses that as an excuse to go to the restroom. Parker then goes into Hoffman's office and sends the CEO's computer files to Hardison. He and Nate confirm that the new drug, Vioplex, is identical to HT1. Hoffman is going to release Vioplex despite the dangers, killing thousands. He's modified the drug to delay the effects, and Nate figures that by the time the FDA realizes what's going on, Hoffman will have moved on. They need the HT1 vials, and Nate tells Parker to look for their locations. He tells Eliot to stick with Jennifer because they need her to expose Hoffman's scheme. She's ready to leave town, but Eliot convinces her to stick around and see the town with him.
Parker finds Hoffman's hidden files and transmits copies to Hardison. However, the alarm goes off before she's finished. Nate tells her to stay and finish the job despite Hardison's objections. She pulls it off and gets out ahead of the security team.
When Sophie returns, she questions Nate's decision and points out that they're being blackmailed because he went off the rails and ended up in prison. When he asks what happens if he doesn't get himself under control, Sophie tells him that she'll walk, and warns that she's the only one who likes him.
An exhausted Eliot complains to Hardison that he's been busy touring Boston with Jennifer. Hardison informs Nate that the HT1 vials are hidden at one of multiple locations. Nate figures that they can push Hoffman into revealing it and insists nothing can go wrong. Hardison and Eliot wonder about how Nate has changed, and rather he's better or worse.
Hoffman and Sophie meet for lunch and she assures him that she'll deal with any complaints. The CEO admits that people will die, but Hoffman and his company will make billions of dollars and the fines will be inconsequential. Sophie borrows his jacket against the chill and leaves to take a call. Nate then comes in and tells Hoffman that he's a friend of Roberts and has the vials, and he wants $5 million to keep his knowledge quiet. Nate leaves and Sophie returns and returns Hoffman's coat.
Hoffman goes to the storage facility and confirms he still has the vials. Sophie attached a button cam with a GPS tracker to his jacket. They now know where the storage facility is, and Parker goes to steal the vials. When Ashley wishes Parker luck, the thief irritably responds.
Sophie returns to PallaGen and notices that Hoffman is planning something with his security men. She warns the team that Hoffman is up to something. Hoffman then calls Nate and tells him he'll pay the $5 million, but he wants Nate to come to PallaGen to accept the payment. Nate agrees despite the fact that Sophie and Hardison both figure that it's a setup so Hoffman can kill Nate. Nate confidently insists he can handle it.
Nate goes to the Vioplex rollout party and Eliot keeps an eye out for the security guards who will come after Nate and try to poison him. Jennifer interrupts Eliot and informs him that they can still be friends, but she wants someone more dangerous. Eliot is left stunned. Meanwhile, Parker finds the vault and bypasses the security cameras thanks to Hardison's instructions. They realize they forgot to give her the security code that Hoffman used to enter the vault, and quickly go over the recorded footage. Once Parker is in, she approaches the storage cage.
Nate nervously stops a man from approaching him until he realizes the man had a pen.
Parker triggers the motion alarm and Hardison warns her she only has 15 seconds to escape.
Hoffman meets with Sophie and waits for something to happen. Nate contacts Sophie via earbud and tells her that Parker has been detected. As she goes to get some champagne, Hoffman is informed about the break-in. He sends his men in to check on the case with the vials, and Parker locks them in the storage cage. She then escapes, knocking down another man to get outside. As she goes, she informs the others that the vials are still in the cage.
As Nate heads for the exit, a security guard tries to inject him with a syringe. Nate stops him but other security guards capture him and take him to Hoffman. The CEO informs Nate that the deal has changed and he knows that Parker didn't escape with the vials. Hoffman's men bring in the case with the vials and he orders his security guards outside. Eliot knocks them out, while Nate renegotiates. Hoffman refuses to play along but Nate tells him that they stole the vials and the case is empty. The HT1 is in the party's champagne, including the glass that Hoffman is drinking. The CEO opens the case and confirms that the case is empty. In reality, Parker took the vials and then set off the motion sensors deliberately.
Nate warns that Hoffman will die from the concentrated dose of HT1, but Hoffman says he didn't have the opportunity to dose the champagne. Jennifer arrives and says that Hoffman's assistant sent her. That was Sophie, posing as Hoffman's assistant. Nate brings up the security monitors and confirms that Sophie is part of the scam. Hoffman storms off and Nate gives Jennifer the empty case and tells her to stick with Hoffman.
Hoffman tells everyone not to drink the champagne, warning that it's been poisoned with HT1. Hardison puts the matching formulas for HT1 and Vioplex on the big screens, and Jennifer opens the case. The vials are back in it. He's unaware that the team used a trick case to make it appear empty until the next time that Hoffman opened it. Hoffman looks up at Nate, who is watching from the balcony. The reporters demand answers from Hoffman as Sophie joins Nate and warns that he's out of control. He insists that he was merely demonstrating he was willing to take the same risks as everyone else. Sophie isn't comforted.
Later at the bar, Ashley wonders what she's going to do now. Hardison gives her a list of all the HT1 victims and the reward fee for whistle-blowing on Hoffman. Parker is watching and snaps a bottle, and Sophie explains that she's feeling jealousy. She tells Parker to tell Hardison how she feels. After Ashley goes, Hardison comes over to the bar and Sophie makes a quick exit. Parker hesitantly explains that she has feelings for... pretzels. Realizing what she really means, Hardison assures her that the pretzels will be there whenever she's ready.
