The Gone Fishin' Job - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Claire Salazar is tutoring her daughter Lydia when there's a knock on the door. She answers it and finds a debt collector, Owens, there to collect on her delinquent taxes. He informs her that her payment plan has been turned down, and she gives him her credit card, or he'll foreclose on the lien against her house, come back with the sheriff, and lock her out. Claire has no choice but to give him her credit card.

Claire meets with Nate and tells him that the IRS never received the payment, and someone maxed out her credit card. Nate promises to find out who did it and Claire wonders what she can tell her daughter. Nate tells her to tell Lydia not to give up.

As the team meets, Eliot complains they never get time off. Hardison tracks Claire's money to Hugh Whitman, who runs a debt collection agency. He worked for the IRS for 20 years and gets the information on delinquent payers from a friend. There's nothing about Whitman on the Internet, but he routed the money through three different companies and Hardison has tracked it to a bank in the small town of Turner Creek. One team will convince Whitman his money isn't safe, and the rest will met with Whitman and convince him to invest the money in the bank they want.

Eliot insists on taking Hardison with him to the Turner Creek bank, and is eager to be in the outdoors. Hardison isn't so thrilled. They go in posing as IRS agents but someone spots them.

Sophie confronts Whitman and claims to be with the IRS, and tells him she knows about his Turner Creek account. Before she can make him an offer to secure his funds, Whitman's aide Owens comes in and tells him that the agents are investigating his accounts. Whitman tells his aide to dispose of them, and returns to his office. He asks her about his old IRS agent, Charles Dean, and Nate tells Sophie to say she last saw him at his funeral. Convinced, Whitman accepts her cover and asks what her plan is.

As Eliot and Hardison go back to their car, militia men show up and capture them at gunpoint. They're taken off in a sealed van, and Eliot carefully memorizes how far they're going and what turns they're making.

Sophie takes Whitman to his new "bank": a ladies fitness center. Thanks to Parker and Nate working behind-the-scenes, they've cleared everyone out. Nate then poses as the owner and explains that they use the center and four others to launder money. He demands an immediate answer from Whitman and warns that he's the only bidder. Whitman agrees to take a look and make sure that Nate can provide the proper cover papers.

At the militia camp, Eliot realizes the men are anti-government "freedom fighters," and they're not happy with the IRS. He notices them preparing a fake delivery van and storing molasses. The soldiers handcuff them together and force Hardison to kneel for execution but Eliot refuses. Hardison asks for a cigarette as his last wish, and the commander has a teen, Brandon, provide the cigarette. As Brandon nervously tries to light it, Eliot makes his move, knocks out a few men, grabs Hardison, and they escape into the woods.

Parker infiltrates Whitman's business as a debt collector, but realizes that she's calling people to collect on medical bills and starts deleting all the files. Nate calls her and reminds her to break into Whitman's office.

Eliot navigates his route back in his head but Hardison disagrees. They play for it and Hardison loses, and Eliot leads the way. The militia men close in, using dogs to follow their trail.

Parker searches Whitman's office and finds the secret walk-in compartment. She prints out the IRS list but then notices a crate filled with guns. She notifies Nate, who leaves his office and talks to Parker. She confirms that Whitman has militia flags and Nate goes back in and starts talking about American principles. Sophie picks up on it and plays along, and Whitman starts talking about his problems with the American government. He admits the money he's been collecting is going to the revolution, and assures them he's had the IRS agents at the bank taken care of. He then tells Nate to meet him later for his answer. Once he's gone, they realize that they haven't heard from Eliot and Hardison recently and figure they're in trouble.

As Nate and Sophie go to Whitman's office, Nate tells her to close the deal with Whitman while he and Parker find their missing teammates.

Eliot covers himself and a reluctant Hardison with skunkweed to cover their scent. When Hardison objects, Eliot insists that he knows what he's doing.

Nate and Parker met in one of Whitman's office and call their teammates. All Eliot can say is that they're 17 miles from the bank before the connection goes bad. Hardison figures they need to get higher for a clear signal. Meanwhile Parker goes over a map she found on the computer and they figure where their teammates are. Hardison and Eliot climb a tree and reestablish contact, and Nate directs them to a nearby railroad track. He assures them they'll be a train there when they arrive.

Whitman begins to wonder where Nate is.

Parker returns to her clerk's station and Nate uses her phone to call the Department of Transportation and spoof the call so it appears to be coming from a nearby town. He reports a rockslide and Sophie and Parker join in. The train gets rerouted from Pennsylvania and Nate tells Hardison and Eliot it's on its way.

Sophie returns and finds Whitman pouring drinks.

Hardison and Eliot climb down from the tree and head for the tracks.

Whitman tells Sophie that they have a deal, and Nate tells her that things are going smoothly.

Hardison and Eliot arrive at the tracks, but one of the militia men arrives. They argue and lure him in close enough to disarm him. When the soldier boasts that they're getting new recruits and can't stop him, they both kick him unconscious. However, Hardison realizes that Eliot smelled molasses at the camp, and that the militia men are going to use it to make fertilizer bombs. The bombs have to be used within 48 hours, and there isn't enough time for the FBI to find the bombs. Eliot agrees and uses a hatchet to cut the handcuffs apart, and warns that it will get bloody.

Parker warns Nate that she's lost contact with Hardison and Eliot again. Owens overhears her and realizes something is wrong, and calls Whitman. Whitman turns and discovers that Sophie has disappeared, and heads for the bank. Parker makes a run for it with Owens in pursuit, and she warns Nate that the building has gone into lockdown. He figures that Whitman will make a run for the bank. Nate calls Eliot and Hardison, who tell him they're taking on the militia. Nate then directs Sophie to the lobby so they can escape via the emergency exit.

Parker sabotages the elevators and puts them into emergency protocol, forcing them all to the ground floor so that Whitman can't take an elevator down. She then meets with Nate and Sophie, who set off the fire alarms. They leave the building with everyone else before Owens can stop them.

Eliot tells Hardison not to get overconfident, and then they launch their attack. They take out the militia soldiers one by one, but several others capture them.

Whitman gets to the bank and tells the manager to withdraw his funds. The militia commander, Chester, prepares to order Hardison and Eliot's deaths. However, they point out that they've rigged the propane tanks to explode before they were captured. The tanks go up with explosive results.

Whitman goes out to his hummer with his money, puts the case down to unlock his door and get in, and drives away. Nate is watching and tells the others that Whitman has left.

Eliot and Hardison slip away from the camp as Whitman arrives and demands answers from Chester. He tells him to get the men to a safehouse while he leaves town while the heat is on. Nate arrives and finds Hardison and Eliot hiding in the woods. He then fakes a radio call that the ATF are moving in on the camp, and that Whitman is working with them. Whitman shows them the money to prove his trust, only to discover that the case is empty. He's unaware that Parker and the others got to the bank first, and Parker hid underneath the hummer and switched cases when he set his down.

Whitman tries to explain that they're being set up, but Chester pulls a gun on him and takes him to town to get their money. Eliot wonders if they're going to let Whitman get away with it, but Nate says he has things under control.

Whitman and Chester enter the bank and discover the ATF waiting for them. They arrest Whitman and his people and open Whitman's case. Inside of it is the IRS list, and Sophie and Parker arrive as IRS agents to confirm that Whitman stole confidential data from the IRS. No one is impressed with Whitman's claims that they're all part of the con.

Back at the bar, Nate gives Claire her money back and asks her to help them find the other people on the list and get the money back to them as well. Meanwhile, Hardison is showing Eliot how to computer-fish, but Eliot admits it's not the same. Hardison figures its better.
