The Hot Potato Job - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Emily Margold comes out of her farm house and finds two men digging up a plot of land. When she threatens to call the cops, they close in on her. Her father runs over and they beat her up before driving away.

Later, Emily meets with Natalie and Sophie at the bar and explains that she is working on a super tuber: a high-nutrient potato. Colin Saunders, a CEO with Verd Agra, has been calling to buy the potato. Emily doesn’t want to sell it and plans to give the potato away so people can grow it themselves. Saunders called her again and made the same offer, and Emily refused to be frightened into selling. Nate assures her that they’ll take care of her.

Once Emily leaves, Sophie wants to go to dinner. Nate suggests they go out for dinner but makes it clear that they are just going out to eat as colleagues. Sophie agrees and they leave together.

The next morning, Sophie and Nate wake up at Nate’s apartment. Sophie insists that they were being spontaneous and have nothing to be ashamed about, and Nate insists that it was a mistake. He says that he doesn’t want a relationship to ruin what they have and Sophie agrees, taking the words out of his mouth. Before he can pursue the matter, the others arrive and Nate quickly tries to hide their scattered clothing. Alec admires Emily’s work in bio-hacking. Parker assumes they’re talking about something else to fool the people bugging their apartment. The people in charge are Colin Saunders, a power-hungry CEO who likes acquisitions. His chief of operations is Jana West, highly ambitious. Emily calls Nate to tell him that Veda Agra is back, and he tells her to stall.

Jana takes the potato, claiming that it was grown from Veda Agra seeds. She dares Emily to bring it to court and Emily has no choice but to surrender the potato. Ten minutes later, Nate and the others arrive. Eliot warns that the Veda Agra facility is impenetrable. Nate sends Sophie and Alec to stop Jana anyway they can while he and the others bottle them up. Alec finds a truck with hay bales and fakes an accident while Sophie hides the van. When Alec starts shoveling it off the road, Jana and her men arrive. He asks them for help and Jana points out that he doesn’t look like a farmer. Alec tries to fake it without success as the others listen in and realize he’s in over his head.

Sophie marches over and punches Alec unconscious. She then explains to Jana that she’s a security consultant secretly brought in by the company’s board. Sophie says that there’s an assault team on the way and they need to get back to the company headquarters immediately. Jana drives away with her while the others arrive to pick up Alec.

At Veda Agra, the team watches as Sophie goes in. She has obtained Jana’s cell phone number and sent it to Alec. As they work, Nate wonders why everyone is happy that Sophie has taken over. When Jana checks Sophie’s credentials, Alec sneaks in a cover file that he prepared for Eliot. He blends it with Eliot’s information, remembering just in time to change the gender. When Jana calls the board, Alec intercepts the call and Nate gives a non-answer that they hired Sophie and refers Jana to Saunders.

Jana takes Sophie to a conference room and demands answers. Sophie explains that the board hired her directly to apprise Saunders and says that Jana must be a strong woman to survive in her power. She then says that the board hired her because there’s a security leak. Nate realizes that Sophie is creating a fake internal enemy to undermine Saunders and Jana. Jana agrees to give Sophie twelve hours to find the mole. She then takes Sophie to see Saunders. Saunders explains that since he became CEO, people have been trying to take away his power. He tells Sophie that the potato is in a burn room, a room that allows him to destroy everything with a press of the button.

Sophie promises to help Saunders find the mole. Meanwhile, Nate warns the others that Saunders will begin a lockdown in five minutes. Alec goes in as a delivery man and tries to seal a security man’s badge with some help from Parker. Sophie sets it up so they’ll bring in her accountant, but says that she needs Eliot rather than Nate. Nate is disappointed that she isn’t trying to get him in, and she tells him to figure out his own way. Eliot ambushes an accountant and takes his clothing and badge.

Nate comes up with his own way in: he and Parker pose as educational coordinators and greet a farm club of children there for a tour. Nate tells the teacher to meet them later and promises that she’ll be glad to have the break. The guards insist on searching Nate and Parker. When one of the students, Trevor Dawson, balks, Nate tells him that he knows all about him and can relate with his problems with authority. Once they clear security, the lockdown begins.

Nate and Parker go over the building map and points out the security zones on the top floor. As they talk, Nate subtly explains to Parker how she can get in using a badge, but warns her that the badges have a tracking system.

Sophie and Eliot meet with Saunders and explain that they’ve trapped the mole. They ask for his head of IT. Once he’s called away, Alec breaks into the server room. Parker and Nate leave the kids in the cafeteria and Nate figures that they’ll need three badges to get to the burn room. Alec picks out three employees and Sophie calls them in for interrogation. Parker serves them coffee and steals their badges, while Sophie thinks on the fly and claims that they were all three having an affair and the man has major paternity expenses.

Parker heads for the top floor and covers tow of the badges with foil to block their RFID tags. She uses one badge to penetrate the first level of security and then discards it. The second level requires a keypad access and Alec taps the building security archive footage to find out the pin number one of the employees uses. As Nate and Alec work, Trevor wanders into the server room. Rather than knock him unconscious, Nate invites him to sit down and watch.

Parker discovers that the next door is protected by a guard and two physical keys. Since Alec can’t hack it, they need to get one key because the guard has the other. Sophie and Nate start arguing about what to do next, but Parker spots the head custodian, Scott McCue. She steals his keys and Nate calls him to security. Once he’s there, Sophie distracts him by accusing him of embezzling money to the Cayman Islands. Much to everyone’s surprise, McCue admits that he did exactly that. Jana figures that he’s the mole and prepares to end the lockdown... which will blow the team’s cover.

Thinking quickly, Sophie tells Jana that McCue must be working for someone else and suggests that Saunders is the real mole. Jana agrees to have her men watch Saunders. However, the CEO soon realizes what is going on and calls in Sophie and Eliot.

Alec calls the guard at the door and Nate hounds him to distract the man. When Parker arrives with the other key, claiming to be a VP, the guard lets her in. Parker enters the first chamber, the seed vault. She immediately goes inside and discovers that the room is refrigerated to negative 20 degrees Celsius. Alec tells her to get out before she suffers from permanent frostbite, but she continues inside. There’s a keypad and Parker breathes on it to see the last four numbers. With only ten seconds left, Nate realizes that some of the numbers repeat and the sequence is longer. He remembers Saunders saying when he became CEO and has Parker enter in 040694. She does so and gets into the burn room... which is guarded by a laser system.

Saunders demands to know who sent Sophie. He figures the board hired her to dig up dirt on her and orders his men to search for anyone in the building. Nate and Alec realize that they’re blown. The alarm goes off and the security team confirms that someone is in the vault: Saunders. Earlier, Sophie stole his security badge and slipped it to Parker. Once she got inside, she took the foil off of Saunders’ badge. He goes for the burn button trigger and tells his men to take Sophie and Eliot away. Eliot quickly disposes of them but Saunders activates the trigger.

In the lobby, Saunders comes down and finds Nate leaving with the farm club... and Parker, who is safe and sound. Parker managed to get to the case, take the potato, and get out just before the flames ignited. Saunders has them searched. Jana arrives and informs Saunders is under arrest... because Alec transferred the money from McCue’s account to Saunders’. The board figures he was paid to destroy a room of acquisitions. As he’s taken away, more guards arrive to arrest Jana. Alec made sure the transfer came from Jana’s account.

The team meets outside as the kids board the bus. As Trevor boards the bus, Parker trades him his cell phone for his lunch box. She sliced up the potato and put a slice of it with the eyes into Trevor’s lunchbox. The rest, she put into the cafeteria where it was cut up into French fries.

Later, Emily thanks Nate for his help and shows them the potato, growing in a plastic bag. Sophie and Nate congratulate each other on their work. Once she leaves, Nate wonders what they do next and Sophie says they try dinner again… as colleagues and friends. As they leave, Nate forgets his cell phone and misses a call from Alec. He’s learned that Jana was cleared of all charges and is the new CEO of Verd Agra.
