Life Is Priceless - Recap

The scene opens with a construction fire and a building collapses. It traps three workers. The owner of the company, Kevin Warren, the Mayor, Meredith Fallon and the city engineer, Mark Boulware all say that they are not to blame. FEMA decides to call Lightman into this. Lightman and Foster talk to the last person who saw them. Lightman shows him a look of expressions and the man says that he saw disgust on the men’s faces. The man is showing signs of an opiate addiction and the man says that he was injured and has been self-medicating. He says that he got high on a break and that he saw the men somewhere else. Meanwhile, Torres and Loker talk to an internet billionaire and he says that he wants to make sure that his fiancé is not marrying him only for his money. Torres says that they don’t spy on people’s lives, but when the man puts down a check and they look at the amount he is offering, they take the job.

The Mayor is giving a TV interview when Lightman sees that she is lying about the wrongdoings at the site. Lightman talks to her and she tells that she forced the contractor to hire more workers then was needed and says that she feels guilty of what happened to the men. Meanwhile, rescue dogs find the missing men and the rescue crew finds out that one is in pain, one is filled with relief and Jered Blunt’s face shows fear. Lighman watches and thinks that Jered could be responsible for the collapse to begin with. However, the lose the feed before he could find out the reason he feels fear. Warran talks to Lightman and says that Blunt threatened the company about overtime not being paid out. He says that he wanted to fire Blunt, but says that the union stepped in. Lightman says that it is possible that Blunt got trapped by accident when he was trying to sabotage the project. Foster suggests that workplace violence and domestic violence are connected. She says that she wants to speak with Blunt's wife, Valerie.

Foster and Lightman sit down with Valerie and she tells them that her marriage wasn’t perfect as she portrays it to be. Lightman and Foster start to fight to see what Valerie’s expression will be. She is disgusted and doesn’t show fear at it. They realize that Valerie is not used to seeing domestic violence. Foster says that Blunt wasn’t the one who blew up the building. Foster watches a conversation between Warren and Valerie. She tells that there was something intimate between them in the past. Lightman says that Valerie’s eyelids flutter at the mention of marital problems. That is a sign that she is hiding something. Foster says that Blunt could have been the target, not the one who caused it. Warren gets brought in and he says that he was intimate with Valerie when she was separated, but denies any involvement in blowing up the building. Warren says that he was the one who broke off the affair and says that Valerie got a call from Blunt. After that, she went back to her husband. Meanwhile, Loker watches the video feed that he got from the rescue crew of the trapped workers and Torres pulls out a picture of Nadia Dawson, the billionaire’s fiancé. Loker points out that Blunt is showing contempt on his face, but Lightman says that he is not showing that, he is sick and says that he has been for a while.

The feed is brought up again and Blunt tells that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and that his shaky hands were what caused him to drop a blowtorch down the elevator shaft. He says that could have caused the explosion. Torres meets with Nadia and says that they went to the same High School. Nadia doesn’t see that she is being videotaped and says that she was familiar with the company, but didn’t know that he was the owner of it. Later, Loker shows the video to the billionaire and says that Nadia is lying because she is touching her watch and earrings. She knew who he was when they met and the billionaire walks out. However, that is not the end of the video and Torres tells him to watch the rest of it. He watches that even though she was attracted by his money, Nadia loves him. Loker says that initially, the billionaire was attracted by Nadia’s beauty so there is no difference. Torres tells that he needs to be honest with Nadia and Loker suggests a prenuptial agreement to go along with it.

Later, Boulware talks to the press and says that there is nothing that could have caused such an explosion. Lightman says that Boulware is nervous about something. Lightman talks to the city engineer and Boulware says that he received money and a note telling him to sign off on the project without any inspections. He says that the spot was a former landfill. Lightman calls in Commander Stevens from FEMA and says that they need to stop the giant drill so that they can give the men an escape route. He says that it could ignite and cause the methane that is seeing through from the landfill to explode if they are not careful. Stevens tells the crew to drill faster instead. Boulware tells the men to find the nearest elevator shaft. The drill reaches the methane and there is an explosion. Rescue crews help the men in the shaft out, but there is one worker missing, Blunt. Warren tells the FBI that he didn’t know about the methane. However, Lightman sees that one the Mayor’s face, she knew about the landfill and that it was going to prevent her father from getting the site developed.

The Mayor is arrested for her involvement in the explosion. Back at the office, Foster tells Lighman that she needs a drink. They drink and Foster asks why people think that they are the only ones with a secret. She starts to run through all the things that happened during the time and plays the “what if” game with the fact that it could have all been avoided. Lightman tells Foster that people always will think that they have a secret and others don’t.
