The scene opens with a house on fire. Frank Ambrose, the owner of the house, screams that his mother-in-law and daughter are inside. When a firefighter pulls the little girl out of the house, there is a big explosion. Meanwhile, Lightman finds his ex-wife, Zoe, at his desk. She is messing around with Lightman’s tribal mask and asks for help with the case about the house fire. Later, Frank and his family wait over their daughter, Maggie. Frank tells that he didn’t start the fire and says that Jack Garcia, a TV reporter, who ran out of the cellar was the one who started the blaze. However, the person who saw Garcia run out, is Frank’s son, A.J. Lightman listens to A.J.’s account of what happened and asks if he knows about the “Boy Who Cried Wolf”. He says that he does and Lightman tells Foster that he wants her to evaluate A.J.

Afterward, Lighman talks to Jack and Jack denies the entire thing. He says that he doesn’t have a problem with Frank. However, Lightman picks up contempt in his face. Jack tells that Frank and he were good friends who lost touch. However, six months ago, Frank asks Jack for money. When he asked for the money back, Frank became angry. Lightman meets with Zoe and she tells that Frank is in debt and that the house was insured for a lot more then the worth. However, Frank is still denying that he started the fire. Foster meets with A.J. and says that he thinks that his story is true and that Zoe is lying about her involvement with her new boyfriend, Roger. Foster tells that she wants Torres’ help with the Dante Edwards case. She tells him that a gangster named Caden and Dante got into an argument and days after, Dante was shot exiting out of a nightclub.
Foster, Torres and a Detective arrive at Caden’s place and he tells them that he didn’t kill Dante. Torres sees that Caden shows signs of regret when Dante’s name is mentioned. Caden tells them that he, Dante and his cousin, B, all grew up together. He and B were watching a basketball game at the time when Dante got shot. Later, Foster talks to A.J. again and Lightman sits in on the session. Lightman is talking to an imaginary friend and A.J. calls Lightman weird. Lightman looks at A.J.’s drawings and asks if they are to do with the fire. He tells Foster to have him keep drawing. Meanwhile at the hospital, Maggie tells Loker that she is angry with her mother, Cheryl. Lightman watches a video of the family and sees that Cheryl is holding her breath whenever Jack is mentioned. He talks to her and she admits having an affair with Jack. However, she broke it off because Frank doesn’t have anything left. She tells that Jack is innocent in this.

Lightman and Zoe talk about their marriage and how it failed. They tell each other that they were faithful, but Zoe wanted to kill him. Lightman later talks to Sarah, Jack’s wife. She says that Jack told her about the affair, but she says that they are fixing it. However, Lightman sees anger in Sarah’s eyes and says that they have to change things when things change on them. In the hall, Zoe tells Lightman that Sarah is lying to herself. They scream at each other and Zoe tells that everyone had doubts in their marriage and Lightman asks why Zoe hired him and she tells that it is a tough case. Meanwhile, Loker sees that there is anger in the video between Caden and Little Sid when they were at a party. Loker decides to do an experienment of his own with Torres and says that Little Sid’s homophobic lyrics are the reason that Little Sid killed Dante for being gay. Foster looks at A.J.’s drawings and sees that the drawings are more fanciful. She realizes that A.J. is not telling the truth because the drawings would have stayed the same otherwise.
Lightman and Zoe talk to Cheryl and Frank and they deny making up the story. Zoe says that Frank is lying whereas Lighman doesn’t. Zoe tells Lightman that he thinks that he is God and Lightman says that Zoe doesn’t care what he thinks. Lightman brings up Roger and Zoe says that they are fine, but he doesn’t believe her. However, Emily comes in and tells that Roger proposed to Zoe. Meanwhile, Torres and the Detective talk to Little Sid. He says that he is not a homophobe and that he is only angry that Dante was going to work for Caden. He says that he tried to get him back by offering more money, but it didn’t work. Later, Emily tells Lightman that he and Zoe are delusional because Zoe doesn’t wear her engagement ring because she thinks that she is still in love with Lightman. He tells that Emily sees them clearly. Lightman and Zoe talk to Maggie and she tells that she knew about the affair that her mother had with Jack and says that she told A.J. the story. However, she didn’t start the fire and they find out that there is another house fire.

Later, Torres and the Detective talk to Caden and he says that he knew that Dante was gay and says that he loved him. B’s face shows that he is disgusted and he admits that he left Caden’s house and that he shot Dante because he didn’t want Caden to ruin his career by coming out. He is arrested. Lightman talks to the new fire victims, Aaron and Laurel Craig. Lightman talks to them and Aaron and he says that their marriage is over and that with the insurance payout, they go their separate ways. Lightman goes up to Laurel and asks who her favorite news reporter is and she confirms that it is Jack. Sarah tells that Garcia humiliated her and they go to talk to Jack who admits to having an affair with Laurel. Sarah admits to burning down the houses and is arrested. Later, Lightman tells Zoe that he is alright with Roger and that she should make it work. He also points out that she should wear Roger’s engagement ring. The episode ends with Zoe getting dressed and Emily is home early. However, Lightman is in the bed without his shirt on. The episode ends.
