Lie to Me is back for some more fun and the scene opens with cut scenes of a murder in room 202 and a man who is frantically cleaning up after his mess. They show the face of the killer but the mirror is cracked and the image is distorted. The camera then pans out and we see a girl looking in the mirror. She has just witnessed the murder through a type of vision. Meanwhile Dr. Lightman is at a book signing with his daughter. Deception expert, Dr. Lightman talks to the crowd and then starts to sign books. Trisha, the girl from the first scene tells Lightman that she saw a murder through a sort of physic vision. She is desperate for someone to believe her.
At the Lightman Group, Jillian Foster is running around frantic to get Lightman to an important meeting but his mind is on Trisha Howell, the girl with the visions who is in the examining room recalling what she saw. Lightman has taken particular interest in finding the scientific excuse for her vision. Foster is introduced to Trisha and Trisha starts to recall all that she saw in her vision. The details are extremely accurate. There are three options that are going through Lightman’s mind about Trisha’s physic ability. Trisha is either: ill, she is a physic, or she witnessed a murder and no one believes her. Foster reminds Lightman that he has a meeting with Judge Simon, potential Supreme Court nominee. Rita Torres takes over to determine whether the judge as Lighthouse puts it “a lying son of a bitch”. Agent Reynolds rushes out to catch Lighthouse and says that the president asked for him specifically. To this Lighthouse replies, “you do know that I can tell when you are lying right?”
Zoe, the ex-wife of Lighthouse quit the Department of Justice and is moving to Chicago but has not told Emily, the daughter of the two, of the news yet. However, there is more to the story when we find out that she is working along side the Dave Gruber from law school. She takes the defensive side and says that she wants to take Emily with her. Zoe has already planned out a holiday schedule for them to follow. But Lightman doesn’t like this news and the fact that he has to break it to Emily. Torres enters the room to Judge Simon and the judge is not happy that he is not being interrogated by a deception expert like Lightman and diminishes the qualities of Torres. However, for everyone who has been watching, Torres is no amateur. Meanwhile back in the examination room Trisha is gone. Outside Lightman is trying to follow up on Trisha’s lead and enters the same room that the murder happened. Detectives see the blood but don’t have a body linking it to a murder and it is dismissed.
Back in the interrogation room, Torres has commenced the questioning and starts to ask the judge about his wife. When the question of cheating comes up, the judge sidesteps around it but Torres continues knowing that there is a secret hidden. After a couple deflects, the age of Torres and the fact that she is 24 years old bothers the judge because in his opinion, “anyone under the age of 35 doesn’t know their ass from a hole in a ground”. Lightman is in the hotel room when the door opens up. Lightman, hiding in a closet sees a woman enter trying to find something under the bed. She bears the same flower tattoo that Trisha has on her right wrist. Not recognizing Dr. Lightman, the woman says that her name is Jessie. Lightman is interested and takes “Jessie” back to the Lightman group. Foster and Lightman are examining the change of demeanor of Trisha to Jessie and realize that she has multiple personality disorder. Hooker Jessie is interviewed by Lightman and the questioning continues with Torres and Judge Simon in the interrogation room. Without the knowledge of Agent Reynolds, Torres brings up the Judges past cases and pauses on one particular case involved a 56 year old Margaret Lane who the Judge gave life imprisonment for a first offense to the crook. The Judge tells that nothing happened but Torres tells that she may be 24 but she has a talent of spotting lies. The judge tells her to move on but she pushes through.
Hypnosis is started with Foster and Hooker Jessie. Foster talks to Jessie and tells that she wants to talk to Trisha. After a few moments, Trisha comes out of Jessie and answers the questions that Foster has. She talks about another alter, RJ. Jessie doesn’t like Trisha and says that Gavin likes her more. But upon coming out of hypnosis, another alter, the primary one, Sophie emerges and she is scared. After talking to Sophie and assuring her that she is safe, we find out that Gavin is the brother of Sophie but she never sees her and that only Jessie sees him. Agent Reynolds is in another room with Torres as she starts to tell why Judge Simon should not be on the Supreme Court. The fear in his eyes when Torres asked about the case, the arousal and gooey voice of the daughter of Margaret Lane when speaking of Judge Simon were all to make her mind up that he should not be nominated for the supreme court. However, Reynolds tells that she hates the judge and that is why she is denying the judge’s spot claiming that “it got personal” with her.
At the home of Gavin, Lightman, Foster and Sophie enter and Lightman starts to question Gavin. He tells that the grandfather did some bad stuff to Sophie and claims that Jessie goes to Gavin when she has had a rough night but he says that he has not seen her in months. But it is evident that this is only part of the story. Sophie is walking around the room and more things start to show up that was in the vision that she had. The broken mirror and the bloody wallet of Kyle Arnold were found. Sophie wants to know if she killed him or not. Lightman goes to visit the home of Kyle Arnold and his wife answers the door. But Kyle comes up to the door. Lightman was thinking that this was going to be a dead man, and starts to question him. But Kyle has more information then he is telling. Kyle tells Lightman that two “working girls” robbed him at a hotel and he fought back. Upon leaving his home, Lightman tells Kyle’s wife that her husband likes to have unprotected sex with hookers and that she needs to get herself tested for well, everything.
Foster is trying to determine what happened and both Lightman and her determine that they need to speak to RJ, the other alter, who seems to be the protector in the group inside of Sophie. Back with Sophie, it is clear that this is really taxing on her. Emily walks in and Lightman talks to her but is interrupted by Agent Reynolds. He informs Lightman that there was a body found, a hooker named Amber O’Malley. Lightman grabs Sophie and takes her into a room and tells her to take off her clothes. He wants to get RJ out so that he can talk and the only way to do that is to trap her. The rest of the group is trying to get in and halfway through choking Sophie, RJ emerges and punches Lightman in the face. Reynolds and the detective get RJ off of Lightman and he attempts to talk to RJ. But Foster informs Lightman that alters are one-dimensional and that he can’t talk. Lightman wants one minute with RJ. After calming down RJ in the car, Trisha comes back and she knows now who killed the girl.
Back in the office with Judge Simon, Lightman takes a crack at it briefly and gets the Judge to confess of kissing Nicole Lane but that his judgment on the crook was not affected. He tells that his name should be withdrawn, but Torres says that he was younger and that should not affect his position. After Reynolds and Judge Simon leave, Torres wants to know why Lightman assigned her to the case, and that she feels that she is not ready to handle that much pressure. Lightman disagrees with her and tells that she nailed it. Torres tells that when she was younger, she was in it deep and that she is moving at her own pace.
Sophie is dressed as Jessie and she enters the hotel. Pretending to be Jessie she talks to the Hotel manager. She is trying to get him to confess to the crime of killing Amber the hooker while Agent Reynolds, Foster, and Lightman are listening in. After a struggle the group fear that Sophie is going to transition into RJ put Sophie keeps her cool. The Manager confesses to killing Amber and the police rush in and catch the real killer. Back at the Office Lightman is talking to Zoe who is in the middle of packing. She apologizes to Lightman that it is happening like it is. Lightman gives Zoe a check to buy her out of the Lightman group. His plan is to keep her away from Chicago and that she can now afford to open up her own law firm right where she is now and that Emily doesn’t have to go. Upon meeting Foster in the hall, Lightman realizes that she knows of the money that was withdrawn from the company. He tells her not to worry and that he can always win it back in Vegas.
