At a Lovematch Connections Mix and Mingle, Lightman mingles around and pretends to be a Furrier, someone who makes furs to distract a woman that is interested in him. His target is someone else apparently. He approaches another woman and to start small talk asks if he and she were in hotel room, what would she order from room service: Chocolate cake, strawberries or warm honey? She is distracted by his comments and Lightman gets a call from Foster. Eric Matheson, a man accused of killing his wife, is on the run and the FBI says that they want him found. A woman sits next to him at the bar and Lightman pretends to be a buyer of paintings. The woman says that she is a curator. They talk about their exes and the woman says that she never cheated on her ex husband. Lightman leaves to “Pay his meter”. The woman that Lightman asked if she liked chocolate cake, strawberries or warm honey stops him. She says that it would be warm honey and gives him her card.
Torres is at the home of Gwen, Eric’s sister, and she is upset about his disappearance of her brother and Torres wants to get to the bottom of it. She recognizes that there is something that she is not telling her and Gwen admits that there is a lot that she is not telling her. She leaves back to her car and the folder that contained Eric’s dossier is missing. She looks in her rear mirror and Eric Matheson is there in Torres’s car and at gunpoint, tells her to drive.
Lightman returns to the office and we find out the reason why he was at the mix and mingle and tells the ex-husband that there is no hint of guilt or shame. The ex-husband wants him to run another “test” to get a better answer if he increases the fee. But, Lightman tells him that the “truth is the truth” and the lawyer tells to have Lightman send him the bill. Foster is frustrated with Lightman because of his recent move to buy his ex-wife out of the firm leaving the company cash poor. But they are interrupeted by Eric who has Torres hostage. Eric claims that he did not kill his wife. He continues to hold the Lightman group hostage and Lightman tells Eric to take him as a hostage and let Torres go. He tells all the employees to get in the office and not to call the cops. Lightman insists that no one call the cops. Torres is going to call Eli and Reynolds to the office and not to tell them anything
In the office, Lightman and Eric are talking about his wife and Eric is not lying that he didn’t kill his wife. Lightman recognizes that Reynolds and Eli come in and Foster tells Reynolds what is going on. Reynolds is not happy and insists that he is going to call it in, but Foster tells him if he does, then Lightman will die. Reynolds makes an exception after Foster is called to the office. She enters the office and Lightman gives her a card with an address on it. It is a man who Eric’s wife used to work for and that he was making unwanted advances on his wife. She says that she will go but Eric has to let everyone else go in the conference room. He agrees with the deal. Foster tells that
Torres admits that she screwed up.
Foster and Eli visit Tom McHenry, the guy that Eric’s wife used to work for. Foster tells that Eric is saying that Tom killed his wife. Tom starts to dance around the notion and Foster asks to video tape it. He refuses but is convinced by Foster that he has nothing to hide. Back at the Office, Lightman is talking with Eric and it seems like he is hiding more then he has already revealed. Foster and Eli return with the taped converstation with Tom and Reynolds makes the rule that she set up the camera in the lab. Lightman and Eric are in the lab and they watch the tape. On the tape, Lightman finds that Tom is not lying and that Eric’s wife came in to open a loan to pay off a debt. Lightman demands that Eric tell about the debt. Eric borrowed $10,000 from a friend and that Tom is the man who killed his wife. Lightman is frustrated and tells Eric that he killed his wife. Eric puts the gun to Lightman’s head and tells him to say it again. Lightman wants the name of his friend.
Agent Reynolds and Foster visit Danny at his work and tell him that they want to know about the money. Danny tells that he was out of town and that he wasn’t the facilitator of the loan. When trying to get to know who is, Danny blocks but Reynolds grabs him and demands that he answer. Meanwhile back at the Lightman group, Lightman lets Torres in and she tells that the loan was traced back and that Connie, Eric’s wife, went to settle on the debt. Danny said that he was not surprised that Connie showed up because she was always cleaning up after Eric’s messes. Lightman recognizing the guilt asks Eric, “Why all the guilt?”
Reynolds and Foster are investigating the guy who gave Eric the loan to begin with and Foster wants to approach him. But Reynolds tells that he is going to call it in. Foster stops him and says that if he does, then Lightman is going to die. She has a plan. She walks in the bar and asks to use the barman’s phone. After slamming the phone down she starts to leave. She turns around and goes up to Zancanelli and asks if he could fix a flat. At the Lightman group, Lightman questions Eric’s knowledge about his knowledge that Connie knew about the loan and he is guilty that she got involved. Lightman tells Eric to just walk away and that the incident never happened. He is about to give up his gun when the police knock on the door. Eric panics. Torres tells the police that nothing is going on but they insist to look around. When they approach the door where Eric and Lightman are, Lightman opens the door and tells that nothing is going on. They leave. Foster and Reynolds bring in Zancanelli for questioning.
Reynolds questions him about Connie and the loan and he tells that he is only the person who gave them the loan. Running out of options, Torres remembers that Gwen, Eric’s sister, was hiding more. Foster tells her to go to her. Gwen says that Connie asked her for a Digital Recorder about a one time fling that she had but that he wanted more. She wasn’t going to use it for anything but she kept the records. Back at the Lightman group Foster tells that Zancanelli used blackmail to get back at Connie and Eric and that he was the one that killed her. This puts Eric into rage and he demands that he speak to Zancanelli and that if they don’t agree, then he was going to kill Lightman. They have to give him what he wants, but Eli has a plan. They escort Zancanelli to the room where Lightman and Eric are and Reynolds, Foster, Torres, and it is Eli who is dressed as Zancanelli is there. Eli tells Eric that Connie said something to tell him before she died. Steaming with rage Eric demands to know what she said and raises his gun. But Reynolds has him on the draw and shoots Eric in the shoulder. The standoff is over.
Lightman goes on a date with the “Warm honey” woman from the mix and mingle. She asks what he does for a living and he tells her that he tries to help people. Lightman says that he shouldn’t be with her at the bar. He walks to Foster’s home and he tells that Zancanelli confessed to Connie’s murder. Lightman compliments Foster and tells her that she is only looking out for the company. Lightman mainly came over to see if Foster is alright from the incident today and asks if he could sleep in her “guest bedroom”. They hug and kiss briefly. The episode ends with Foster closing the door. Maybe something happening with Foster and Lightman eh?
