It is Black Friday and a crowd of people are waiting to get into Digital Corner. A couple is arguing and a man forgot his wallet. Tempers flare and people are trampled as people attempt to get to the door first. At the Lightman home, Emily is struggling through Calculus and Lightman is dressed in an apron cooking in the kitchen. Emily is complaining about how they have to spend time together during holidays. There is a knock on the door. A boy enters and he is saying that his name Max Roland, but he believes he is James Knox. Foster recognizes the name as a baby that was kidnapped on Christmas Eve 15 years ago. This Max is desperate and offers $500 to Lightman to help him find his real parents.

Lightman and Foster go to the Lightman Group and Max is there with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roland. Max tells them that he knows that they are not his parents. They try to blow it off by telling him not to bring it up. Max tells that he got the DNA results and at the sound of that, there is fear on both of the parents. Lightman reveals himself and Foster and the parents get angry. Foster fears that Max has just went home with his abductors.
Reynolds is in South Carolina and Foster tells that they need to keep it quit from the press and talk to the Knox Family. Meanwhile Loker is in a room with the business owner of Digital Corner. Two customers were killed and Loker can prove that the murders were not the fault of the business, but that of a single person. He points out that riots happen because people bring aggressive attitudes to the place. The Lawyer wants to settle out of court and pay 20 million dollars. But Loker tells to give him some time and not to settle yet. If he is right, the Lightman group gets 10 percent of what they save. Lightman asks Loker how the meeting went with the businessman and he says that they got the job. Lightman tells him that it is easy to get the job but hard to deliver. Loker is up to the challenge.
At the Knox home, Foster and Lightman are meeting with the Knox family and they are excited that they might have found their son. But Mrs. Knox is fidgeting. Lightman asks if it was overcast the day their son was abducted and Mrs. Knox thinks it was. Lightman and Foster think that they are lying. Lightman starts to press for answers and the wife says in response to the question, “Did you kill him?” She screams out “It was an accident!” She went in the kitchen while James was in the bath and James drowned. She has been keeping it secret for all these years.

Max is at the office and gets the news that he is not James Knox and he wants to know who he is. Lightman tells him that there are hundreds of children who have been abducted when they were babies. Max thinks that Lightman is not going to help him, but Lightman tells Max that he is with him all the way if Max is. Max agrees. They go back to Max’s home and question the parents. Foster tells the parents that they are not protecting him but they’re hurting him. After a few moments, Mrs. Roland reveals that his mother’s name was Cheyenne and that she was not any older then Max is now. Max wants to know where she is. Meanwhile at the Lightman group, Torres and Loker are ready to interview the people involved in the stampede at Digital Corner. The group start telling Loker what happened and it is apparent that not everyone is telling the truth. They are all interviewed and Loker points out that people are lying about what happened to them. The security guard that started a fight 15 minutes prior was true, as Torres points out.
Lightman is looking up a video of Reynolds typing in his password in the FBI website and hacks into the site to find the mother of Max. At a hospital, mother and son reunite and they share a moment. But unfortunately Lightman picks up that she is lying and that she is not his mother. Cheyenne tells that Romeo, her drug dealer had a baby at the house and that she saw an ad in the paper of a couple who needed a baby. Back at the Lightman Group Lightman tells Foster that she doesn’t have to smother Max. Reynolds is following behind and tells that he got a call from his supervisor seeing if his interests in 16 year old boys are business or personal. Lightman gives away Loker as the one that hacked into his computer but Reynolds knows better. Emily is trying to comfort Max but he is a little standoffish at first. He lightens up after Emily tells that her family is just as messed up as his. Reynolds is back in action and they go to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland. Max is missing and left a note. He ran away. Reynolds arrests them for false adoption and child endangerment. Back at the Lightman Group, Loker and Torres are talking about the false statements of the people involved but Torres brings up the security guard. The lawyer has a video of the incident and some things were going on between the guard and a few customers. He is welcome to give up the security tape to them.
Lightman is watching Max and Emily talking on a table before Max ran away. Lightman wants to talk to Emily to where Max might be. Foster lies and says that they found Max’s biological parents and that now that he is gone, he could hurt himself. Lightman tells Foster that they need to go and Emily quickly leaves the building. She knows where Max is. Lightman thanks Foster for lying to Emily so that he wouldn’t have to. Reynolds finds that Romeo the drug dealer is really Ray Blake. Max and Emily enter and Max wants to know where his parents are. But that was a lie of course. Emily is upset that Foster lied to her but they had to do it to protect Max. Reynolds enters with information on Blake all they have is his old probation officer’s address.
Ray Blake’s ex-probation officer, Mr. John Donnelly, tells that he was a gambler. Lightman feels that John has anger about his paralysis. We find out that someone broke into his home, killed his wife, put a bullet in his back and stole their baby son. Meanwhile, Loker broke the crowd into sectors and find that there are a couple that he picks out. But, Torres tells him that the people in the video are working people and not to make something there just to impress Lightman. However, despite the fact that he wants to give Lightman the money that could be given, the video doesn’t lie. They go talk to the guy that was breaking through the crowd. In the interrogation room we find out that he lost his daughter in the crowd and that he arm is broken in several places. But his body movements say otherwise. His daughter fell and he heard her crying so he panicked and ran to her. That is what caused the riot. Meanwhile Lightman and Foster are talking to John of the possibility of finding his son. John was the probation officer that sent Ray Blake back to prison and that it was possible Blake killed his wife and took his son because of the death of his own daughter while in prison. John wants his son back if DNA matches up.

Back at the Lightman group, Loker tells Lightman that they found the man who started the riot and that he just made a lot of money for the Lightman Group. Lightman tells him that he did a good job, but Torres wants to know more about the suspect’s daughter and why did she fall. Torres is obsessed to know about the daughter of the man who said she broke her arm and Loker goes to a bar. On his way out, a couple slips on a patch of ice on the sidewalk. Loker has a thought and rushes back to see Torres looking at the tape and find out that there is a glare on the sidewalk on the video. Lightman wakes up a sleeping Max and tells him to go meet his Father. But upon meeting him, Max, or Owen as John calls him, doesn’t think it is his father because he doesn’t know anything about music and Max hates hockey. Foster tries to reason with him, but it is Lightman who breaks through to the kid and he breaks down and cries on Lightman’s shoulder.
Loker and Torres are meeting with the Lawyer and the Business owner of Digital Corner. They disclose their findings and they receive a check for 1.5 million dollars. But Loker asks him about the ice on the sidewalks. The Lawyer doesn’t answer that. Loker tells them that they could use all of the report or only part, but he will make sure that it leaks somewhere and they will be busted. The Lawyer takes the check from them and informs that they will use none of it. Meanwhile, Lightman is in the room with Ray Blake who was found by Agent Reynolds. Lightman gets him to confess of kidnapping the baby Max. Now Max has a new father and a new name, Owen. Lightman walks up to Loker and yells about the money not being in the account telling him that he spent most of the hours and Torres only a few and he let her make the choice. But Loker stands by that there were other evidences in the case. This is what Lightman wanted to hear. He tells Loker that if he would have taken the money, then he would have been sacked. Owen meets with his parents and real father. They have joint custody on him. Emily, Lightman and Foster patch things up and the episode ends.
