The scene opens with Lightman waking up Emily at four in the morning and she asks how the book writing is going. Lightman remains silent. Emily tells that Lightman can always hire a ghostwriter. Later that day at the Lightman Group, Sara, the newly hired deaf girl, comes into his office. Lightman shows her to Loker’s computer and tells that she needs to take the red dot test. Meanwhile, Foster is meeting with a new client, Candice McCallister. She is a director of a teenage beauty pageant. Lightman confronts Foster and tells that she hired Sarah to spy on him and then orders his own assistant to hack into Foster’s computer. Later, Lightman invites himself to the beauty pageant rehearsals and they are about to throw him out of there when Foster and Candice arrive. They tell that the Lightman Group has been called to make sure that there are no drugs or plastic surgery in the pageant. Foster is upset that Lightman hacked her computer and is spending his time on the job rather than writing his book. Lightman calls the pageant a “freak show” and says that on contestant, Megan Cross, needed the director’s help yesterday.

Back at the Lightman Group, Loker is upset with Lightman and takes his laptop. Torres sees this and disagrees with it. Meanwhile, Lightman and Foster talk with Megan and Laura, her mother. Foster tells that Megan and Laura are a little too close and Lightman tells that Laura is making Megan sad and that that someone is hiding something. They find out that Megan has a bruise on her shoulder. Megan tells that a father of another contestant, Mr. Fletcher, is the one who did it. Lightman brings in his new help, Detective Wallowski and asks if she can run the records of Fletcher and to keep it quiet. Lightman meets with Fletcher and he tells that Megan is lying. Lightman believes him and tells that Fletcher is hiding something though. Lightman enters to question Laura and immediately, she refuses to press any charges. Foster points out that she used the “Royal We” when she referred herself and Megan. Lightman decides to question Megan separate from Laura, it is the same. Later, Lightman can smell Loker’s cologne on his computer and goes to see Foster talk to Megan. He picks up on the fact that Megan is using the molestation charge to punish her mother. However, the contestants are saying that Fletcher is the one who molested them.
This ensues an angry mob outside of Fletcher’s home and several parents have gathered. Det. Wallowski takes Deedee, Fletcher’s daughter, to Child Protective Services, Fletcher tells Lightman that the bruises that Megan have was his defending himself when she went crazy and tried to attack him with the scissors. Lightman tells him to talk to the pageant director this, but when he does, a mother of a contestant smacks him. Fletcher refuses to retaliate and Lightman tells that the lack of retaliation is a sign that he is actually innocent. Torres shows a tape to Lightman and shows that Megan took a fall for another person so that she would lose. She shows signs that she is happyt hat she did it too. Lightman tells that constant criticizing will lead to a disrupted personality. Torres says that Lightman is doing the same thing to Loker. Lightman confronts Megan and Laura about the intentional fall and Fletcher begs that Megan and Laura simply tell the truth. That is when they tell that Laura and Fletcher had a relationship. Fletcher tells that he ended it.

Det.Wallowski and Foster interview the girls and they all say that they were molested by Fletcher. However, they see that all the stories are the same and they find out that Megan is gone. Loker follows Lightman to the crowd that is surrounding Fletcher’s home and tells that people know where Megan is. Dt.Wallowski takes Fletcher away and tells that Deedee is in the hospital. Megan arrives at the hospital and Lightman is already there. She tries to come on to Lightman and Lightman takes the razor blade away from her. He sees that Megan has the same slash marks on her thighs and she tells that she will tell everyone that he attacked her. However, Lightman shows that Laura and Det. Wallowski heard everything, and Megan runs off. Deedee gives Megan’s diary and it has the details of the molestation charge that all the girls have been saying. However, it is really Laura’s diary and Megan was only using it to create her mother even more pain and grief. Lightman walks off and finds Megan on the ledge of a building. She is wearing an angel costume and he says that her suicide will not ruin Laura’s life and that using the diary was not good. He tells her that if she really wants to give her mother grief and pain, he is the guy that is going to help.

Later, Foster and Lightman are at a pageant and Megan takes second-place and Laura runs off. Lightman finds her sigging on the stage and gives back her diary. He tells her that Megan was using it to hurt her own mother. Megan shows up and tells that she will be in no more pageants. Later at the Lightman Group, Loker tells Torres that he applied for employment at the Pentagon and if he gets the job, he is leaving Lightman and the rest of the team. Later that evening, Lightman goes home and tells that Emily that he is sorry that he spoke bad about Emily’s grandmother and she tells that she would never forgive Lightman if he ever committed suicide. Lightman tells that his mother was ill and that it was not her fault that she did it. Emily tells that she is writing a foreword for his book. She tells that it will says. "It's not easy growing up in a house where someone knows your every thought - or thinks they do." Lightman likes it, but tells that he doesn’t have a book. However, later that night, Lightman sits at the computer and begins to type up his book claiming that he knows very little and especially those close to him.
