The scene opens with a man named Jack Stafford talking to an audience on the advantages of "Scientific Re-Patterning. He tells that is where you need to think only positive thoughts and surround yourself with only people who do the same. A woman by the name of Carol Ashland walks into his office, takes a lot of pills, and calls up her daughter, Danielle, and says goodbye for the last time. Danielle is in the Lightman Group and she replays the message that was left by her mother. Lightman and Foster listen carefully and Danielle tells that Jack Stafford is responsible for the attempted suicide of her mother. This is because she wanted to leave the SRP organization. Lightman tells that Danielle's not only worried about her mother, but Lightman is convinced that Jack is a fraud.

Torres and Loker interview Dr. Sunderland, a doctor who released Carol from his care to the SRP. He shows fear when they ask him about the three-day stay there. Meanwhile, Lightman visits Jack during a rehearsal and tells that it is a “load of old bollocks.” Jack is not surprised to see them and tells that Dr. Sunderland called him and tells that he will let them see Carol, who is undergoing “reintegration”. However, when they question Carol, she keeps looking at Jack for his approval and tells that she is fine and that she doesn’t want to leave, but Lightman picks up that Carol is scared. Foster sees that Jack is showing no emotion. Later at the Lightman Group, Foster points out some parallels between Jack’s treatment of his employees and the way Lightman treats them. She tells him to stop telling Loker and Torres to drink the office coffee and tells that they need a break. Lightman goes home and finds that Emily is studying with her friend Liam and tells him to get lost. He then leaves abruptly when Torres and Loker tell that they have a woman who is willing to give information.
Lightman and Foster visit with Carol again at SRP and Lightman points out that Carol is shamed about the fact that she is thinking of Danielle. Lightman bursts into Jack’s office and tells that he is amazed that he is doing so well with a non-profit organization. Jack defends it and tells that they are not a religion or a cult. He tells that Lightman is just a bully and tells that if he wants to, he can audit a session. Lightman looks at him seriously and asks if he ever smiles. In the interview room, Loker and Torres believe that Danielle is holding something when Lightman and Foster interrogate her. Lightman tells them to bring in Jane, the woman willing to testify. Lightman goes to the session and when Carol tells that needs help self-delivering; Lightman interrupts and tells that there is a contradiction in the statement. Jack asks Lightman to leave. He invites Carol to go with him and she tells that she won’t do it. When Lightman gets home, he finds a brochure on the table from SRP. Emily tells that she was in the shower and doesn’t know how it got there. Lightman has her stay at the office and at the office Jane walks in.

They take her into the room and tell that she is safe. Jane tells that Jack appointed himself the leader of SRP and that her ex-boyfriend, Martin, left the group and then died in “mysterious” fire. Lightman sees that Jane still loves Jack even though she was dumped for a younger woman. Lightman asks if she ever thought of suicide and sees that she has. Lightman tells that she can go. Lightman visits Jack again with Foster and they see that Carol is not there. He tells that he doesn’t know where she is. Lightman asks if he knows Danielle and his face doesn’t say anything, but his body languge suggests something else. They question Danielle and she admits that she was a member of SRP and that she had sex with Jack on a daily basis until she got fed up with it and ran away. Torres shows Lightman a computer model that Loker created to show the plastic surgery that Jack had gone under. He had so much that no one can read his expressions. His name is really Carl Weatherly and he is married to Sandy and has a daughter named Liz. He left them to escape charges of vehicular manslaughter from Canada.
Lightman returns to where Jack is giving a speech and tells that Sandy and Liz are there with him. Jack runs offstage and Lightman, Foster and Jack’s family are there too. Jack tells that he is sorry that he left them, but they don’t accept his apology. Sandy tells that she was left with nothing and Liz tells that she lived with the fact that her father didn’t love her for 14 years. Jack tells that he will take care of his family and tells that Lightman should go and take care of his. Lightman rushes home to find Emily with Liam. He tells them to go to the Lightman Group. He sees a man outside in a car. Lightman smashes the car’s window and the man runs away. Meanwhile, Jack arrives at a storage unit and finds out that all the files that he had are gone. Lightman tells that the police took everything and tells that it is easy to find hidden things once they know the real name. He tells that Carol was found in Arizona and Jack is arrested.

Later, Emily is there with Liam and Lightman tells that he is having a hard time getting used to the fact that Emily is not a little girl anymore. He tells that that he needs to go. Lightman goes into his office and overhears Loker and Torres talking about Lightman and how he is just like Jack. They say that they hear Lightman saying that they have the answer, but they don’t. Lightman grabs Loker’s coffee and walks away leaving both Torres and Loker in shock. Meanwhile, Foster is with Danielle and she tells that Jack was a sociopath and that she needs to push back. Lightman sees from the hallway and after seeing that Danielle and her mother Carol recogcile their differences, he closes the door and gives them privacy.
