The scene opens with a couple coming into the Lightman Group. They tell that their little girl Samantha has been missing for two months. They ask for their help. Lightman and Foster talk to the parents and find out that Samantha is not their biological daughter, but that she was adopted five years ago. They say that the police suspect that her parents killed her, but they don’t believe it. Meanwhile, Loker and Torres go to an event for Norther Uganda Peace Activist Farida Mugisha. She stands up and says that she was kidnapped and that she witnessed many killings before she escaped. Loker tells that he read her book. However, her publisher talks to Loker and Torres and asks them to see if Farida is telling the truth because if what he has discovered is true and that Farida did take part in the killings, then it would be bad press for her. Loker and Torres talk to Farida and she tells that she never took part in any of the killings and says that they can listen to her speak.

Back at the Lightman Group, a lot of people gather in the office to give information. This is sparked because of the $100,000 reward that the parents are offering to the one who finds her. Lightman says that there is no reward and several people leave. Lightman weeds them out more when he asks if anyone knows a suspect by the name Edward Stence. Several raise their hand and Lightman says that wasn’t true and dismisses them. One of Samantha’s classmates comes forward and tells that Samantha was friends with Walter, a boy in their class. Lightman and Foster go to Walter’s home and they find Samantha’s backpack in his room. Inside, they find a sweater, the same one that she was wearing. They also find a wad of money. Walter is surprised. He says that he never opened it and that Samantha gave it to him months prior to her disappearing. He says that she trusted him. Foster tells that it is a classic “runaway kit”. However, they see that the money is wrapped up in a piece of paper with Dr. Knowlton’s letterhead. He is Samantha’s psychiatrist.
Lightman and Foster go to her office and Knowlton refused to work with them and says that Samantha could be in danger. Lightman picks up that Samantha was abused. Lightman and Foster revisit Samantha’s parents and Emily calls. Lightman plays like he is being verbally abusive to her. The parents are horrified and Lightman realizes that they were not the ones abusing Samantha. The mother says that Samantha was often throwing tantrums and that one of them caused her to fall on a stove and burn her. Meanwhile, Loker and Torres listen to Farida’s speech and Torres points out that she sounds anxious. Loker says that is always normal for public speakers and they walk up to her afterward and Loker asks Farida to sign his book. They inform the publisher that they can’t find any deception in Farida’s voice. Loker realizes that Farida gave him her number. Back at the Lightman Group, Lightman talks to a man who is a registered pedophile. The police found him working under a false name at a free clinic. He says that he has never seen Samantha and Lightman picks up that he is lying. He says that he has to take chemical castration medication so he says that he is not guilty of anything. He says that she comes into the clinic every week.

Loker brings in Farida to the Lightman Group and gives her a tour. He tells her that they read faces to pick out whether or not a person is lying. She tells that she wants to see it all. Later, Samantha goes to the clinic like always and the police grab her. Her parents run up to her, but she tells that her name is Jessica. Lightman and Foster are there and say that she is only trying to protect the person or people who have abducted her. Meanwhile, Torres is watching over old videotapes of Farida and her body language is different then what they saw. Loker says that she memorized the speech and that she doesn’t want to actually remember the events that happened to her. Samantha’s mother, meanwhile, is sad that Samantha doesn’t want to accept her as her mother. Foster says that she adopted a child whose mother took her back after 2 months of them bonding with the baby. She says that the mother has to tell Samantha that she loves her. She talks to Samantha and she tells that she loves her too and says that she is scared about Heather. She tells that she is another girl that was taken and says that she is still there trapped.
Loker talks to Farida and says that that he doesn’t date that often because there is always a lie that is hidden in them. He says that Torres thinks that Farida is a liar. Farida touchses her ear and Loker realizes that Torres was right. Farida says that she has been lying so that she could draw the attention to problems in her country. Meanwhile, Lightman finds out that Heather is a foster kid that has been missing for three months. He asks her many questions and finds out that the abductor is Dr. Knowlton. The police go to the psychiatrist’s home, but find it vacant. Inside, they find “Jessica”. She died two years ago and Lightman tells that the children are replacement children to her. Ligtman says that they need to find out where Jessica died and that there they will find Dr. Knowlton and Heather. They go to a lakeside dock and find Knowlton and Heather. Knowlton has a pistol aimed at Heather. Lightman and Foster talk to her and she tells that she could do a better job then any of the parents. She cries and drops the gun and is arrested.

At the Lightman Group, Torres tells Loker that Farida’s book is getting taken out of publication. She says that by coming to the office, Farida wanted to get caught or that she really liked Loker. However, he says that she doesn’t care either way and Torres says that he is a liar. Loker admits that he is. Back at the dock, Foster looks a little shaken from the ordeal. She says that she is remembering when her adoption of the girl was withdrawn and that her husband and she can’t talk about it. She starts to cry a little bit and Lightman consoles her and the episode ends with them staring up at the sky.
