Sam goes undercover to infiltrate a violent Irish gang, and has to reveal a dark side in order to keep his cover. The situation gets twisted, though, when it turns out that the sister of the gang leader is actually a neighbor who occasionally babysat him in his youth. The connection to his youth once more challenges Sam's perception of his situation.

Sam: My father went over to the dark side
Sam introduces himself to his younger self as "Luke Skywalker", a clear reference to the central character of the original (i.e., "second") trinity of Star Wars. Both the reference "the dark side" and the background idea of Sam's father going over to the dark side are references to Star Wars' Darth Vader (who was actually Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker) going over to the dark side of The Force, an underlying entity/property that connects all living things. |
