Casey desperately wants her own room, since she has to share an already small room with Lizzie. Since she has already had to sacrifice her friends, house, school, and more to live there, she thinks that getting her own room would be a fitting sacrifice for her. The problem is she wants Derek's room, who won't allow it. Even George agrees with Derek, and says it wouldn't be fair, but after discussing the idea with Nora, they decide to renovate the basement into Casey's room. Casey is erked by the very idea of living in the basement, so, by going by the fact that Derek always gets what he wants, she decides to show him her fantastic designs for the basement, until he actually decides to take it.
The only good thing about Casey's new school seems to be her new friend -- and locker-mate -- Emily, after she falls down the school stairs when Derek insults her in front of his friend, Sam. Casey is majorly embarrassed by her fall, but more embarrassed by her new nickname: Klutzilla. Her family -- with the obvious exception of Derek -- tries to help her get over it, but with no luck. After becoming almost over the incident, Casey falls again on Marti's cardboard house after Derek insults her in front of his friend, Sam, again.
Derek and Casey's parents go away for the weekend, and take Marti with them. Casey plans to maybe have one friend over, while Derek plans to throw a party. Casey is appalled at Derek's suggestion (more like decision), and tries to stop it. She's about to call George and Nora when Emily introduces her to cute guy. Casey then decides to dance with him, but things get really out of control, and Casey decides that she still must put an end to it. Derek is already in the bathroom (trying to fix the door for a friend), where she explains to him that he needs to end the party. But she closes the door, unbeknownst that it won't open again.
Now, Casey and Derek have a party going on in their house, with no one to stop it from going haywire -- which is exactly what happens.
After a disgusting breakfast with Edwin, Derek, and George, Casey feels as if the house needs a feminine touch to the house. George forbids it, and Derek agrees, but Casey still wants to change the house.
So, while Edwin, Derek, and George are out at a hockey game, Nora, Lizzie, and Casey all do some re-decorating. Complete with a new sofa, coffee table, and getting rid of the T.V. in the living room.
Casey is finally fitting in. That is until she makes the mistake of "grade-grubbing". At Casey's old school, it was socially accepted, but at her new one, it makes her the butt of everyone's jokes. Casey tries to just stop studying, but it's no use. She keeps getting 'A's,' which is not helping her get rid of her grade-grubbing image.
Meanwhile, Derek is going to fail English if he doesn't get an A on his report. He decides to pair up with Casey who refuses to do any work on the project.
Casey's aunt is having a wedding, and Casey is supposed to help design the wedding, and Derek is going to film the wedding. Casey can't wait to get started -- that is until she remembers her aunt's daughter (her cousin), whom Casey has never gotten along with. Casey must tolerate her, and keep being insulted by her cousin if she wants to make the wedding perfect.
Derek has become the hustler of the school. Working with one of his friends (who's a musician), he put out an album, which earned her massive bucks. Everything is going great until he becomes sick with the Chicken Pox. He needs someone to keep running his business, and he comes up with the perfect person.
Casey wants a cell phone, but she doesn't have a job, and George and Nora won't fund it. Derek sees this as a perfect opportunity to bribe Casey into being the new hustler of the school, having her sell all of his products, in exchange for a cell phone. Casey accepts, and is pretty good -- until she gets caught, that is.
Everyone is complaining about how there is little room to store their stuff, and only one area that stuff can be stored in, so Derek suggests that they play a game where the MacDonald's go against the Venturi's. The winning family gets the extra room to store their stuff.
When George and Nora plan to go out, they decide to have Casey baby-sit Marti. Casey demands that Derek do it, since he's her blood-sister. Derek refuses, and Casey doesn't change her mind, so Nora and George offer money to help them change their decisions. Casey accepts the offer, but Derek then says he'll do it. Nora wants Casey to baby-sit, since she's already baby-sat well in the past, but George insists that Derek should baby-sit, since he is finally taking initiative.
After Derek injures Casey's ankle, causing Casey to use crutches, Casey threatens to tell George and Nora. Derek responds by bribing her with whatever she wants from him.
Still deciding, Casey goes to school the next day on crutches, and explains how it was Derek's fault. This makes everyone hate him, and praise Casey.
Casey knows that Derek has gotten something good, because he recently borrowed $80 from Edwin.
Casey hires Lizzie to snoop around his room, and find the hidden thing. Once she finds out what it is, Casey takes it, since Derek said "anything."
Casey blasts Derek's new favorite video game, Babe Raider, for being insulting and offensive to girls, but then she discovers it's also a lot of fun to play, which puts her in a moral quandary.
Casey meets resistance from her siblings and parents when she tries to create order amid the chaos that is their home life. Meanwhile, George needs help from the kids if he's going to pull off an important book club meeting that's taking place at their house while Nora is away on a retreat.
Sam and Casey really like each other, and Sam decides to ask Casey out. Derek interrupts Sam when he's attempting to ask Casey out, then tells Sam that he's not allowed to date Casey because of the "Male Code," which says you can't ask out your best friend's sister (step sisters count). Sam decides to avoid Casey when spending the night at their house, but Casey decides to ask him out. He responds by saying that he doesn't like her, which makes Casey really embarrassed and sad. Soon, Sam decides to just go and ask Casey out, but Derek refuses, which results in them getting into a fight. Meanwhile, Lizzie gives her parents a quiz to see how well they know their children. The parents score horribly.
Derek and Emily are working together on a French project after Casey and Sam decide to work together. This leads Casey to believe Derek is interested in Emily and goes to great lengths, even spying on them in a resturaunt, to make sure that they do not become a couple.
Lizzie isn't good at hockey, but Nora won't let her quit. So, George tells Derek to teach Lizzie some hockey skills. Since Derek is busy with Lizze, Edwin asks Casey for advice on girls. Helping their younger siblings, soon becomes a competition between Derek and Casey to see who can give the best advice
Casey and Sam are always breaking up and getting back together. But when they break up for good no one believes her. Meanwhile Edwin and Lizzie are studying how predictable teenagers are. Their theory shows that when Casey and Sam are dating Sam does well in the hockey games. But when they break up they loose which forces Derek to team up with Emily to get the two back together so his team will win the big game and a trip to Sweden.
Casey is disgusted with her fellow students' apathy about the upcoming school election. Corey Plunkett expects to be a shoe-in, until Casey convinces Derek to lend his cool factor to the process by running himself.
Derek's band (D-Rock) enter the Clash of the Bands which is a contest at their school. The only problem is that they need a lead singer. Meanwhile, Casey has a problem getting over Sam, so to become Sam's friend she considers joining the band. When she does her and Derek won't stop arguing!
Casey, compromising all her principles, takes Derek's advice and lies when she desperately needs an extension on a school assignment. Soon she is trapped in a web of deceit and the harder she tries to extricate herself, the worse it gets.
Lizzie becomes jealous of Casey when she starts dating her new soccer coach, who she has secretly been crushing on. Derek struggles with the right thing to do when he finds out Casey isn't the only "Soccer Sister" the Coach is dating.
Tired of Derek's constant pranking Casey decides to pull a prank of her own and get Derek framed for it. However, when Derek gets into serious trouble for it, Casey has a hard time proving his innocence.
When Casey and Derek begin to have pre-performance jitters they turn to Edwin and Lizzie like always. Tired of everyone taking advantage of them Edwin and Lizzie go on strike to prove their point.
Casey turns punk in order to get a punk guy from school to ask her out on a date because of a bet she made with Derek; Edwin makes a bet with Lizzie that he can get someone in his house to call him cool.
There's a mouse problem in the Venturi household. The boys are scared of mice and Casey uses this to her advantage. Derek has a crush on Casey's english partner, Kendra. Casey tricks Derek into being mature to impress her but it doesn't last for long.
Casey tries to keep Derek away from a dinner she has planned with her biological father.
Lately, everyone seems to be dating, Emily even found herself a boyfriend. So Kendra decides to throw a party at the Venturi/McDonald household so Casey could find a boyfriend. Unfortunately, Derek uses this party to his advantage but all his fun is ruined when George and Nora hang around
Casey is shocked when Derek asks her friend out on a date.
Edwin and Lizzie's first boy-girl party doesn't go quite as planned; Casey tries to understand football after the school's cute quarterback asks her out.
Casey accidentally starts a rumor that Emily is going to break up with Sheldon. She is shocked to learn the consequences that her accidental rumor has on the people around her. Meanwhile Derek breaks up with Kendra in order to get around buying Kendra a Valentine's Day present. But things don't go his way when Kendra asks Casey's crush Max to the dance.
George and Nora are going out of town for a second honeymoon leaving Derek and Casey in charge. Derek and Casey's babysitting methods clash and Edwin, Lizzie, and Marti end up liking Derek's style better. This upsets Casey and she leaves the house.
Meanwhile Casey meets up with Emily at Smelly Nellie's to spy on Max and his ex-girlfriend Amy.
Nora tries to recruit some of Casey's friends to work at the school's fun fair, much to Casey's dismay.
Derek defends Edwin from a bully.
Derek is selected to be a prefect at school, but Casey tries to prove he's not qualified for the job; Edwin and Lizzie get jealous when Marti always gets her way
Derek is failing Spanish and it causes his parents to go to drastic measures. Derek is unable to focus because he is constantly pranking Casey. Abby wants him to come with her to Spain for six months so he can learn the language and focus on his studies.
Derek's sixteenth birthday is coming up and he doesn't think anyone remembers.
Meanwhile Nora and the kids finally convince George to buy a new car. Nora, Casey, Edwin, Lizzie, and Marti all try to get a good deal on a car.
Everyone is surprised when Casey and Derek start working at a local restaurant and Derek seems to be more adapt for the job than Casey. Now Casey is determined to prove herself.
Derek has taken full advantage of Casey being afraid of scary movies and now she is looking for revenge.
Derek decides to swear off girls for awhile after breaking up with Kendra and his three day romance with a waitress from work. But there's a new girl in town by the name of Sally who just started working at Smelly Nellie's and Derek is having trouble not asking her out.
Meanwhile Lizzie freaks out after her friend Jamie tells her he likes her. Casey tries to help.
Casey dreams of having the perfect Prom night with Max but it all ends up going wrong after Derek ruins Casey's dress. Derek decides to not attend prom.
Meanwhile Lizzie and Edwin go away for the weekend on a class field trip.
Casey is in charge of Marti's summer camp at Sir John Sparrow High School and Derek is in summer school for a Physics test. Derek decides to make his time useful at school by helping Casey.
Meanwhile Lizzie and Edwin start a pet sitting business.
Casey is chosen to do a documentary on her "blended" family. Things don't go her way when she isn't willing to show how her family truly is.
Derek switches tests with Casey so he can play in the big hockey game coming up. Casey finds out about this and now has to retake the test to get a better grade and not rat out Derek.
Derek and Casey's English class is reading the book, Ivanhoe. Casey studies for the test the night before but with George fixing a hole in the roof she barely gets any sleep. This results in her falling asleep in class and missing the test. Casey now wants Max to act more chivalrous like Ivanhoe and asks Derek to help her.
Meanwhile Edwin tries to find a place to sleep while the hole in the ceiling of his attic bedroom is getting fixed with great difficulty.
Casey invites Max over for dinner and Sally ends up cooking dinner for the whole family. Derek starts getting mixed signals from the newly single Sally and thinks he may have a chance with her.
Meanwhile Nora and Edwin help George get out of his midlife crisis by reuniting his old band, George of the Jungle.
Casey is turning sixteen and wants to throw a lackluster "Sweet Sixteen" dinner for six. So Derek decides to make the party more to his liking by hosting it at Smellie Nellie's and inviting more people. Casey ends up missing her own party because of an emergency appendectomy surgery but that doesn't stop Derek from still going to the party.
Casey and Derek make a bet that whoever gets their driver's license first has to pay for the other's gas money for a year. But Casey begins to doubt if she will win the bet and Derek feeling confident in himself raises the stakes to the loser having to pay the winner's car insurance for a year.
Meanwhile Nora goes out of town for a girl's weekend and leaves George in charge of driving Edwin, Lizzie, and Marti around and the housework. All of this would be easier for him if he didn't get his license suspended.
Casey tries out for cheer leading when Max thinks that she can't do it. Only problem is, is that Max's ex-girlfriend Amy is head cheerleader and has it out for Casey. Derek takes a liking to Amy.
Meanwhile Edwin tries to find a sport he is good at.
Derek lands a leading role in a school musical, and Casey gives him acting advice.
Casey develops a weird allergy after Max gives her his football jacket.
All the kids are out of the house for Christmas. Derek is going to Florida with Ralph, Casey and Lizzie are going to New York to spend the holiday with their dad, with Marti and Edwin visiting their mom. But a snowstorm leads to all their plans being canceled and stuck at home where Nora and George have done nothing to celebrate the holiday. A surprise appearance by George's Aunt Madge doesn't make anything better.
George grounds Derek and Casey the weekend of the "sickest party of the year", but that doesn't stop Derek from sneaking out with Casey. Problems arise when Derek puts a dent in George's car.
Meanwhile Edwin buys a sleuthing kit that he intends to use to find out who put the dent in George's car with help from Lizzie.
Derek teaches Edwin how become a "ladies man", which doesn't seem to help Edwin when a girl in his class shows interest in him.
Meanwhile Casey comes up with a plan to get Sally and Derek together. Her plan fails miserably when Derek finds out what she is trying to do.
Marti is turning eight and wants to have a party with all her friends, but it's almost canceled when Nora has to go to Toronto to visit her aunt who just broke her hip. Sally volunteers herself and Derek to plan and host the part.y. Derek and Sally get in a fight when he refuses to help her.
Meanwhile Casey is finding it hard to get over Max and thinks they should get back together.
Derek convinces his boss to have an "Open Mic Night" at Smelly Nelly's with D-Rock playing and Sally as the MC. Sally tells Derek how she feels about him and is disappointed that he doesn't tell her anything back. Derek has trouble saying how he feels so she tells him to write a song about them, much to his dislike. Now he must turn to Casey to help him write a song.
Meanwhile Edwin decides to sign up for
Open Mic Night" telling jokes but realizes that none of his jokes are actually funny.
Derek is upset that Sally continues to hang out with her ex-boyfriend Patrick. Derek believes that guys and girls cannot be friends, it always leads to something more. So in attempt to make her jealous he calls Kendra and asks to hang out with her on Saturday. Casey thinks Derek is being ridiculous to believe that guys and girls cannot be friends so she starts hanging out with Noel, who in turn thinks that she likes him back.
Meanwhile George has a new friend at work named Terry who just so happens to be a girl. Edwin is worried that Terry has other motives for being George's friend and wants to break up his marriage.
It's March Break and George wants to go on a family road trip twelve hours away from home. Derek and Casey don't want to waste their vacation with the family and decide to stay at home, which leads to an all out war.
It's "Take Your Child to Work Day" but the Venturi-McDonald house is doing it a bit differently. Instead it's called "Take Your Stepkid to Work Day" and Casey will go to work with George while Derek goes to work with Nora. Meanwhile Edwin fakes sick to stay home with Lizzie and Marti who are actually sick.
There's a new guy at school who decides to rate all the girls. Casey finds out that he only rated her a 6 1/2 out of 10 and is upset. Kendra decides to use the ratings the new guy gave the girls to select models for a fashion show.
After breaking up with Sally when she tells him she is going to an out-of-province university, Derek denies that he is upset about the break-up.
Truman keeps asking Casey out and every time she says no, as a result she has been having dreams about him. Meanwhile Edwin starts snooping on the McDonad's and Casey's dream diary goes missing.
It's George and Nora's two year wedding anniversary and George has thrown the family a Mexican fiesta. Nora decides that its time the family learns about Operation Disengagement, Derek and Casey's plan to break up George and Nora.
The new school year is about to start and there's chaos in the Venturi-McDonald house. Casey wants to find a new identity and redo her room, Edwin is heartbroken after Michelle breaks up with him, Lizzie is sick of her clothes, Marti refuses to leave her tent in the hallway and Derek wants to drop out of school to live near Sally in Vancouver.
Casey is stuck with Truman as her fencing partner in PE. Meanwhile, George buys a ping pong table and it puts Edwin and Derek to be in competition with each other.
Casey agrees to go out with Truman but things don't go exactly as planned. Meanwhile, Edwin's friend Teddy returns and won't leave the Venturi-McDonald family alone. While everyone else wants him to leave, Derek decides to take him under his wing and George is away on a business trip.
As Prom approaches the Venturi household is full of surprises Derek announces a new love, Casey gets back with an old love, and Nora and George announces the biggest surprise of them all to the family.
