I like the concept of a rural Wyoming Sheriff, modern day western. But the plots of the first two episodes centered on technicalities of firearms of which the writers know zilch. First they recover a 45/70 caliber bullet from a dead body and proclaim it could only have been fired from an antique Sharps rifle. Ridiculous, the 45/70 is one of the all time most popular American rifle calibers and that bullet could have been fired from any of a million rifles made since 1873 and still being produced today. Next episode they find a burned corpse next to a .45 revolver and Longmire smells a rat because "a .45 never exits a human skull". Ridiculous, a .45 would ALWAYS exit a human skull. Millions of viewers are sufficiently versed in firearms to pick up on such obvious foolishness.
One should not write about that of which they know nothing at all.
