Jin's eyes open. He is standing alone on the shore. He is turning his head and looking in all directions. He is clearly looking for something.
FLASHBACK: Jin is standing in front of an older man who is sitting at an expensive desk. The man is signing papers. Jin is fidgeting nervously. The man finally speaks, "Why do you want to marry my daughter?" Jin answers truthfully, he says Sun is his dream. He says he will do anything that her father asks as long as he can have permission to marry Sun. Jin agrees to work for her father and gets his blessing in the form of a handshake. Jin is very happy and smiling widely.
On the island, Jin has found what he was looking for. Sun is walking to the water to go for a swim. Jin sees that she is wearing a bikini and he immediately covers her with a towel. They get in an argument as the whole camp watches. Michael decides to intervene. Jin is trying to force the towel around Sun's body when Michael steps in. He tells him to keep his hands off her. Michael's actions get him slapped in the face by Sun. She takes her husband by the hand and walks away. Michael is left to try and figure out what just happened.
At the caves, Jin asks his wife what's going on between her and Michael. She tells him that he is being silly and that there is nothing going on. Jin tries to believe this.
FLASHBACK: Sun is putting on her wedding dress. She is talking to a bridesmaid when Jin appears at the door and asks if he can talk to his wife. The bridesmaid leaves. Sun wishes that Jin's father were still alive so that he could see the wedding. Jin says that wherever his father is, he is proud of him. Sun is happy except for the fact that they cannot immediately go on their honeymoon because Jin must return to work for her father. Jin promises that when his management training is over, in 6 months, that they will go on the honeymoon of her dreams. He is only trying to show her father that he is "committed".
On the island, Sun finds Michael. She apologizes for slapping him and that she only did it to protect him from Jin. "You don't know what he is capable of." Michael says that is her problem, not his. The only thing he cares about is finishing the raft so he can take his son and get off the island.
Jin decides to blow off steam by golfing. Hurley tries to calm him down by offering to take him fishing. Jin isn't interested.
Shannon is helping Sayid with the raft and each of them realize that they are starting to enjoy each other's company. Sayid starts to flirt with her more and Shannon does the same. They decide to go on a date sometime.
Michael and Walt are finishing the raft. Michael tells Walt how much he is going to like New York City. He starts to get really happy as he explains it but Walt would rather go play with his dog. As he runs away, Jack comes over to talk to Michael. He says that people are starting to talk about who is going on the raft other than Michael and Walt. Michael explains that the raft is built for 4 people. He only has one spot left. Jack wants to know who took the third spot. Sawyer delivers the cable he promised Michael as his way to "buy a ticket" on the raft.
That night, Kate and Sun sit by the fire and talk. Kate asks why Sun lets Jin treat her so poorly. Sun says that she won't understand because she doesn't know Jin like she does. She says that he wasn't always like this - he used to be loving. Before she can say more, there is a commotion behind them. They go outside to find out what is going on and find the raft engulfed in flames. The castaways try to put the fire out by throwing sand on the raft but it's too late. Michael turns to Sun and says, "Where is he?"
Michael has never been more furious. All his hard work is wasted. Jack and Kate do their best to try and calm him down long enough to convince him that they can't be sure Jin is the one to blame. Michael doesn't want to hear it. No one else does either. The only thing that gets Michael's attention is when Walt gets too close to the fire whilst attempting to put it out. He goes to get Walt and Sun runs off to find Jin.
She finds Jin at the caves. He is searching through Jack's medicine cabinet. His hands are burned. Sun looks on and is crushed by what she has discovered. She tries to explain that Michael was only trying to get them off the island. When Jin hears Michael's name he almost explodes. He runs off into the jungle.
FLASHBACK: Jin is in Sun's father's office again. He is apologizing but is interrupted before he has a chance to finish. Jin was not called into his boss' office to be reprimanded. He has been called in for a promotion. He is now Mr. Paik's "Special Assistant". His first job is to visit the Secretary for Environmental Safety and deliver a message for Mr. Paik: "I'm very displeased." Jin is confused but accepts the order and goes out to do it immediately. He arrives at the Secretary's house and finds that he lives very well. Jin is let in and tells the Secretary that Mr. Paik is very displeased. When Jin simply tells him the message, Secretary Han is overwhelmingly relieved. He is desperate to make it up to Mr. Paik and gives Jin his daughter's dog, the same dog Jin gives to Sun, as a token of his apology.
On the island, Sayid tells Boone that he and Shannon are starting to develop a relationship. Boone doesn't give his blessing but instead warns Sayid that his sister has a penchant for using people to get what she wants and then cuts them loose.
In the morning, Jin awakes and walks down to the stream. He tries to cool off his burned hands. Sawyer comes out of nowhere and knocks Jin out cold.
On the beach, Sayid tells Shannon that they might want to rethink their plan to get more serious. Shannon is confused and knows immediately that he has been talking to Boone. She runs off to confront him and finds Locke getting ready to cook a frog. She demands that Locke tells Boone to stay out of her business. Locke gives her some advice, "Everyone gets a new life on this island, Shannon. Maybe it's time you start yours."
FLASHBACK: Sun is leading a blindfolded Jin to the dining room table. She takes her hands off of his eyes and he finds a home-cooked feast. They are finally going to enjoy a dinner alone, without work. Jin's cell phone rings. He says there will be no work tonight and turns the phone off and puts it away. Sun is extremely surprised and grateful for Jin's actions. Just before the first bite, the house phone rings. They both know that the meal is over.
Jin is back at Mr. Paik's office. He is livid. Since Jin was incapable of delivering a simple message, the auto factory is now closed. Mr. Paik is losing millions of dollars because of Jin. He tells Jin to drive his associate to Secretary Han's house. Jin will learn the proper way to deliver a message.
In the car, Jin sees Mr. Paik's associate put on gloves and attach a silencer to his pistol. He tells Jin to keep the car running and that he will be back in less than 2 minutes. However, when they arrive at the house, Jin is the one who barges in. He beats the Secretary in full view of his daughter.... and saves his life.
Jin returns home and we see a scene that has already been seen before, in episode 5, House Of The Rising Sun, but this time it is from a different perspective. Jin runs into the bathroom and is desperate to know why there's blood on his hands. When Sun asks him what happened, he tells her the truth. He was working for her father and he does whatever her father asks. Sun slaps him and storms away. Jin stares at himself in the mirror. He wants to recognize the man he used to be but he can't and he finally lowers his guard as he starts to cry.
On the island, Sawyer pushes Jin into the sand and unties his hands. Michael runs over. Jack and Hurley try to keep him off of Jin. The entire camp is gathered around and watching things as they get out of control. Michael punches Jin, who refuses to fight back. He stands up and says something in Korean. Michael punches him again. "STOP IT!!" Sun is screaming... in English! She tells everyone that Jin did not set fire to the raft. He burned his hands because he was trying to put the fire out, not set it. No one believes her, and they start to argue. Locke intervenes. Locke tells everyone that they are not the only ones on the island and they've known it the whole time. They were just too scared to admit they weren't alone. They need to stop fighting with each other and start working together.
When things quieten down, Michael decides to start again. He is going to build a better raft. Sun finds Jin at the caves. He is packing his things. She tries to explain herself. All she wants is a chance to start over.
FLASHBACK: Jin gets out of his car and walks down a dock towards a small fishing boat. The fisherman turns to Jin and we find out that it is Jin's father. He isn't dead. Jin said that he was because he was ashamed of him. Jin says he is sorry and asks for his father's forgiveness. He gets it as they embrace. They talk for the first time in a long time. Jin tells his father about what is bothering him. He hates the man he has become but he can't bring himself to tell Sun the truth about her father. Jin's father gives him a simple, but brilliant, idea: he should leave. He says to finish delivering watches to Mr. Paik's associates in Sydney and America and then do not go back. Ever. He and Sun can start over and try to have the life they always dreamed of.
Back in the cave, Sun has asked for one more chance to save their marriage. Jin says that it is too late and he walks away, leaving Sun in tears.
That night, Shannon finds Sayid by the fire. She walks up and gently kisses him. She tells him that everyone gets a new life on this island... she wants to start hers right now.
At the caves, Locke sits down to play a game of backgammon with Walt. Locke asks Walt a question: "Walt, why did you burn the raft?" Walt is shocked Locke knows the truth. Locke promises he won't tell anyone. Walt gives him an answer, he says that he has been moving his whole life and that he doesn't want to move again. He kinda likes the island.
In the morning, Michael begins to work on a new raft. Jin comes out of the jungle with a load of freshly cut bamboo. He looks at Michael and says, "Boat." Together, they start to rebuild.
