Mr. Clean is a brand of cleaning products whose mascot is a middle-aged bald man with an earring.

Sawyer references the famous volcano Mt. Vesuvius, located near present-day Naples, Italy. It is considered to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes on the European conitinent, and became famous in 79 CE (common era) for destroying the cities of Pompeii and Herculeanium.
