Episode Quotes
Colleen: Am I interrupting something?
Juliet: Would it really matter if you were?
Kate: You expect me to work in this dress?
Pickett: It's up to you. You can take it off if you want.
Sawyer: (after smirking at the mental picture of Kate without the dress) How dare you!
Pickett: Now, if you need anything, you raise your hand. You get ten minutes for lunch...
Sawyer: (raises his hand) I got a question, boss.
Pickett: No questions.
Sawyer: She got to ask a question.
Sawyer: (thinking he's been told he'll be shot for violating the "rules") Shot?! Don't we even get a warning?!
Pickett: Shocked! I said shocked! You talk to each other, you're gonna be shocked! You touch each other, you're gonna be shocked! If you're slacking, you're gonna get shocked! As a matter of fact, you do anything at all that pisses me off, you're gonna get shocked!
Alex: Where'd you get that dress?
Kate: They gave it to me.
Alex: It's mine. You can keep it. Looks better on you, anyway.
Sawyer: Havin' fun yet, Freckles?
Kate: Quit staring at my ass.
Sawyer: Hell, give me somethin' else to stare out.
Sayid: If by chance they get past us, there's another gun. It's inside the blue tarp beneath the galley counter.
Sun: If they get past you, that means my husband is dead... and I won't care anymore.
Sayid: Like I said, the gun is inside the blue tarp.
Kate: The hell were you thinking?
Sawyer: I couldn't help myself. You just looked so damned cute swinging that pickaxe! Chain gang looks good on you, Freckles.
Sawyer: (to Kate) Two of those guards got some real fight in 'em. The rest of 'em I didn't have much to worry about. And the heavy set guy packs a hell of a punch. Shaggy-haired kid's got some sort of martial arts training but I think I could take him if I had to. Oh, and FYI, those zapper things got a safety on 'em.
Kate: Why'd she call you James?
Sawyer: 'Cause that's my name. I noticed somethin' else, too. You taste like strawberries.
Kate: You taste like fish biscuits.
Ben: A week ago, you and I were in exactly the opposite situation. I was the one locked up and you were the one coming in for visits. And I know that you were angry that I lied to you about who I was but hell, do you blame me? I mean, let's face it, if I'd have told you I was one of those people that you and your friends have been calling Others all this time, it would've been right back to Sayid and his... fists. Wouldn't it?
Jack: What do you want from me?
Ben: I want for you to change your perspective and the first step in doing that would be for me to be decent enough to introduce myself honestly so... hi, my name is Benjamin Linus and I've lived on this island all my life.
Jack: Where are Kate and Sawyer?
Ben: They're fine, and they're close. That's all I'm able to tell you right now...
Jack: (irritated) You can tell me anything you want.
Ben: Fair enough. It's all I want to tell you.
Jack: (after being told the Red Sox have won the World Series) You uhh... if you wanted me to believe this, you probably should have picked somebody else besides the Red Sox!
Ben: That's home, Jack. Right there, on the other side of that glass. If you listen to me, if you trust me... if you do what I tell you when the time comes, I'll take you there. I will take you home.
Analysis
In this episode, much emphasis was placed on Sayid, as far as the PDI (Post-Dharma Initiative) was concerned: aside from the fact he was leading the boat expedition, Ben makes reference to Sayid's treatment of him while in the hatch. Given the amount of time spent thinking about him, is it possible that the PDI sees Sayid as a real and viable threat to their schemes?
Consider that, of all the Losties (captured or otherwise), Sayid is the only one who both sincerely questioned the story Ben told them in the hatch, and was also the only one to figure out that Michael had been "compromised" by the PDI. Given his background in intelligence gathering (and torture, unfortunately) and the fact that he is often regarded as the most level-headed and rational person on the South Beach, could the PDI fear that Sayid will bring the truth about them to light?
The PDI (Post-Dharma Initiative) is fond of telling the Losties they encounter that the orders they are given are specific and that "it's not their decision to make" when it comes to deviating from them. This leads one to question just what sort of government or leadership strategy the PDI employs, just who it is that issues the directives in their organization, and the true reasoning for evading responsibility in deciding how they are carried out.
