So, how will what Sayid did change things? Will things change for the people who survived the current crash? Will Ben dissappear? Will anyone remember him? Will John, Sun & Frank remember him? Will the recent past change? Like will everyone's memeory of what happened after our people's crash change? Maybe except for those stuck in the distant past? |

I don't know how, but Ben has to live. There are way too many paradoxes created if he's dead. I'm pretty sure that Sayid shooting Ben aids in his transformation into a crazy dude. In other words, I don't think Sayid changed the future; I think the future had already taken into account what he did. |

I agree with holophonor that Ben's going to survive. Remember, the island has magical healing powers, which will probably help. And Sayid only shot him once, in the chest. (Always go for the head; no one ever goes for the head.) That moment was still awesome, though. |

In the first episode, Danial mentions about that you cannot change time when they mention about stopping them getting onto the chopper to the boat.
"We could warn them, stop them from ever flying to that boat"
"Thats not the way it works"
"Who says"
"You Cannot change anything, you cant, even if you try too, wouldnt work"
then goes into some string theory,
Sayid shooting Ben maybe just the start of Bens infactuation with the island and them being on the island 30 years ago maybe why Ben has files on them back in previous series as he knew they were already there.
But O’Brien from ST: DS9 has it right “I hate temporal mechanics!”
but Lost continues to be lost in its own plot but still want to see where it leads

In theory Ben should be dead starting right now...you can't have two of the same identities at the same point in time so Ben should actually cease to exist if Ben and Sun are going back to past...
If he really did die and stayed dead it would only change the power structure of the island. It removes another player from controlling the island. You still got Charles, Richard, and from the way Sawyer has been acting lately I wouldn't be surprised it he turns out be another dictator. Lost doesn't follow normal conventions so who knows what they'll do. A lot of what Daniel said doesn't add up because you can change the past and parts of the future. |

I'm actually not convinced that Ben, Sun, & John are actually in the past because I'm not convinced the plane went back into the past. Remember, some people dissappeared off the plane and some didn't. So far the only ones that we know went back into the past are the ones that dissappeared, right?
Until someone mentioned the island's healng properties I just wasn't buying that Ben could have survived - I mean it's not like he's the first person that Sayid has ever tried to kill. And I'd think that a bullet to the chest from less than 10' away would do more damage to a child than to an adult. But I do totally buy that this could be the event that transformed Ben into an Other.
I just love the DS9 quote |
