MacGyver is on a Department of Interior-sponsored "Save the Wilderness" expedition to plant five stationary markers as part of an effort to map out a national preserve. Pete and DoI representative Joanna drop him off at a weather station and he assures them he'll be done in a couple of days. Joanna and Pete land at the Phoenix Foundation lake station and Pete reassures her that MacGyver is the man for the job. They check the markers placed by the other men and Pete assures Joanna that they'll soon be trailing MacGyver...

Episode Quotes
Pete: MacGyver, take care.
MacGyver: I usually do.

MacGyver: This untracked wilderness reminded me of my Minnesota backwoods, full of the beauty of old Indian legends. I was only too happy to be a part of the Phoenix Foundation's effort to map it out and make it a National Preserve, and to be honest, it was just nice being here.

Joanna: It looks like your man MacGyver has some catching up to do.
Pete: Don't worry. In a little while they'll be chasing his tail.
Joanna: Sure have a lot of faith in this guy. What makes him so special?
Pete: You know, I've known him for eight years now and I've never quite been able to put my finger on it. He just always comes through, no matter what.

MacGyver: One of my biggest problems is I can never leave a puzzle alone, and this ship sure qualified.

MacGyver: Well, I don't believe in ghosts. I believe in explanations. Reality is strange enough.
