Recap

Penny Parker invites MacGyver to help check out the manor that she's inherited from her Aunt Betty. On her 25th birthday she inherits the house, and that day is today. She's heard that the house is haunted but MacGyver insists that there is no such thing as the supernatural. They pull into town and go to the local newspaper office. The owner, Sylvia Lang, startles Penny with a Halloween mistake after mistaking her for a trick-or-treater. Sylvia has the keys and tells them that the heat and water are hooked up, but the phones aren't connected yet. She describes Betty as crazy, and talks about how her father was a bootlegger. When her father was killed, Betty was pushed over the edge and stayed shut up in the house for years. Finally she disappeared 30 years ago and nobody has found her. After seven years she was declared dead. Penny asks if Sylvia has heard that the house was haunted and she admits that the place has quite the reputation...

Episode Quotes
MacGyver: You never know where life is gonna take you. This is especially true when you've got a friend like Penny Parker.

MacGyver: There was a long story behind the way Penny came into her inheritance, and she was in no hurry to shorten it. In high school geometry I learned the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but when telling a story, Penny always takes the scenic route. Hold it: I hear a point coming up.

MacGyver: Penny, I'm sorry. The supernatural is just an easy way to explain what we can't understand.

Penny Parker: Did you know my Aunt Betty?
Sylvia Lang: Oh, everybody in town knew Crazy Betty.
Penny Parker: "Crazy"? You mean like, fun-loving and carefree?
Sylvia Lang: I mean crazy. Loopy as a loon.

MacGyver: See? Told you. Nothing to be afraid of.
Penny Parker: That's easy for you to say. I'm the one that found out that I'm related to a gangster and a madwoman.
MacGyver: Well, you know, that doesn't surprise me.
Penny Parker: What?!?
MacGyver: Uhh, what I mean is every family's got a black sheep in the pack.
Penny Parker: Any black sheep in your family?
MacGyver: You're looking at him.

Penny Parker: Chocolate mint and banana icing—you even remembered my favorite.
MacGyver: Yeah. Who could forget a combination like that?

Sheriff Cliff Howels: Growing up, used to hear stories about an old Indian burial ground around here. First time anybody's ever found part of it, though.
MacGyver: Well, I don't think the Indians had dentists. At least, none that used gold crowns.

Penny Parker: Don't tell me that you didn't hear them.
MacGyver: Oh... it's probably the plumbing.
Penny Parker: The plumbing does not bang on walls and drag things around and moan.

MacGyver: Whatever's going on around here has got nothing to do with ghosts, or goblins, or the supernatural. There is a purely logical explanation for everything.
Penny Parker: Really? Well, that would sound a lot more reassuring if you weren't holding a human skull.

Sheriff Cliff Howels: The last thing I need is a couple of amateurs getting in the way of police work.
Penny Parker: MacGyver's not an amateur.
MacGyver: Well, actually I am.

MacGyver: You can see where the lime seeped into the rock here. That means the upper part of this wall is above ground.
Penny Parker: MacGyver, we're all going to die and you're giving us geology lessons!

Episode References
MacGyverisms:
* A wig stand to mount a skull, pencil erasers to mark skin thickness, cotton balls for eyes and nose, strips of putty for skin, all to reconstruct the facial features
* A candle to trace a stray breeze from a hidden panel to find its exact location
* Capped pipe attached to a patch on an overheating boiler. When the steam builds up, the patch gives first, firing the pipe through a wall
