Recap

MacGyver and Merlin dangle over the lava pit and MacGyver uses the corkscrew on his Swiss Army knife to get a handhold and start pulling himself up. He tells Merlin to grab hold and help pull them both up. Working together, they get high enough for the pivot platform to swing to the horizontal. Merlin crawls off first while MacGyver keeps it balanced, and then MacGyver manages to crawl clear. Merlin complains that MacGyver is grabbing all the attention and he can't handle having a rival, and MacGyver insists that he doesn't want Merlin's job and is only there to save his ancestor...

Episode Quotes
MacGyver: Merlin, follow me. I'm going to swivel around and allow you across the pivot point.
Merlin: "Swivel"? "Pivot point'? Speak English!
MacGyver: Just work with me on this, will you?

Merlin: I find you despicable.
MacGyver: I just saved your life!
Merlin: Of course you did. Show-off! You're always grabbing attention.

Merlin: This ploy will repel any creature on Earth.
MacGyver: You can say that again.
Merlin: This ploy will repel any creature on Earth.
MacGyver: Never mind. Never mind.

Merlin: What are you doing with the king's amulet?
MacGyver: Just hang on, I think this will work.
Merlin: Naturally, it's your idea. It must be superior.

Merlin: I was thinking. As a gesture of good will and camaraderie, you go first.
MacGyver: Whatta guy.

MacGyver: It smells like gunpowder.
Merlin: What's gunpowder?
MacGyver: Nothing you'll ever miss.

Merlin: I have an ancient potion which will deliver him to deepest asleep.
MacGyver: Are you sure?
Merlin: A fool could administer it. Centuries old. Have no fear. (clubs the man unconscious) I told you, centuries old.

MacGyver: Malcolm was right about everything. We have the same first name.
Cecilia: Oh, it's a beautiful name.
MacGyver: Maybe in your time. Where I come from...

MacGyver: All right, keep your fingers crossed.
Merlin: He says strange things like that all the time.

MacGyver: Uh, Morganna, you're standing in a very dangerous spot. The best you can do right now is run.
Morganna: Yes. The McIver defiance. I knew there was something about you I despised.
MacGyver: Well, wouldn't have it any other way.

Episode Goofs
Morganna is mixing her gunpowder using proportions of 20 to 7 to 1. She is incorrect since the The proportions typically have to be approximately 7.5 saltpetre to 1.5 charcoal to 1 sulphur. Also, the colors are mixed up: 20 is yellow (sulphur) when it should be white, 7 is white (saltpetre) when it should be black, and 1 is black (charcoal) when it should be yellow.

Episode References
MacGyverisms:
* The corkscrew attachment on a Swiss Army knife to dig in to boards and use as a handhold to pull up
* A tubelike attachment on an necklace with holes carved, to make a dog whistle to repel a dog
* Silk and quills from a dress to make a kite, a robe attached to the end as a tail with a metal knife attached to it. The electricity strikes the metal knife, blows out a lock, flows down a wet robe, and sets off an explosion in a lab filled with gunpowder.
* Vitriol and zinc mixed together to fill hydrogen and placed into a wine flask to give it lift

The long-standing question of what MacGyver's first name is, is finally resolved.

Analysis
An ancient ancestor?

Morganna dies the same way as another long-time British nemesis of MacGyver: Murdoc. First she's electrocuted but comes back from seeming death. Then she prepares to shoot MacGyver and then screams his name as she dies yet again.
