"
The Benefactor" was an episode of
The Defenders in which the main characters - the father and son law team of Lawrence and Kenneth Preston - defend a doctor accused of performing an abortion. The episode aired a decade before
Roe v. Wade declared laws against abortion unconstitutional in the United States. The three main advertising sponsors of the show did pull out because of the content, as mentioned in the episode, but eventually, Speidel Corporation sponsored the entire hour and the episode aired April 28, 1962.
