Reloaded - Recap

Next Episode -->
The episode begins with the security footage from a parking lot outside a building being shown. In the footage are then seen masked gunmen, who step out of a black colored vehicle and make their way into the building. Then police cars are seen arriving at the parking lot. The gunmen are then shown running outside and firing at the cop cars. In the end though, all the gunmen are shot down by the cops, except one, who is taken alive. Two suspects as it turns out, managed to get away, Provenza is visibly outraged about this. Andy then proceeds to question the one suspect, who has been apprehended. The suspect in tears asks Andy, how his friends are. Andy informs him that they would be going to the morgue pretty soon.

Andy then tells the suspect that if he reveals his name, the names of the ones who died and especially the ones that got away, he can get off with lighter sentence. The suspect after a bit of contemplation agrees. Andy then proceeds to get the DA, so the suspect can give a statement. Then just as Andy steps out of the car, the whole team hears gunshots, and takes cover. They are unable to gauge the direction from where the shots are being fired. Andy then sees that, the suspect sitting in the police car has been shot dead. Julio later informs Sharon that, the suspects were probably army personnel, given their manner of operation and the fact that the weapons used in the crime, are automatic weapons issued by the army.

Provenza is later informed that Sharon would be his immediate boss from now on as she has been transferred to Major Crimes and hence it’s his obligation to report to her from here on end. Provenza though isn’t very happy to hear this, but plays along. Back at the precinct, Sharon runs into Rusty, who asks to speak to Brenda, as he isn’t happy with his new foster parents, and wants his mother found, just like he was promised. Rusty then in frustration calls the police “a bunch of liars”. Sharon calmly hears him out, and then tells him that he is too young to live unsupervised. Rusty though tells her “I can handle it”. Sharon then informs him that he has to testify in court against Stroh, and has to be protected till then by the police.

Rusty then asks to talk to Brenda once again, and is informed that Brenda has retired from the LAPD, so she is all he has got. She then tells him “I am supervising a search for your mother and I will find her”. Later Sharon is informed that, the suspect who got shot in the police vehicle is lance corporal Larry Martin, who is an ex-marine. The other suspects, who were shot down, are also veterans, as it turns out. Sharon then tells her team “I would like to know what we are up against”. Andy then informs Sharon that none of the suspects were in the same branch of service, and neither did they serve together. Also, none of them are related and neither are any of them from the same towns.

Also it turns out, none of them have cell phones or land line phones, they only have internet connections and game consoles, but no computers. Hence it is not known how they communicated with each other. It is then concluded that they communicated though the chat options that the games have, while playing online. This is further confirmed as they all have keyboards, and the CDs for the very same video game. Sharon is then informed that the dead body of the killer who, shot the suspect has been found. The doctor later tells Sharon that the killer might have committed suicide, but after looking at the evidence at hand more closely, he concludes that the killer could actually have been murdered, right after he shot the suspect in captivity.

Sharon is informed that the killer is an ex-marine, private Randall John. She is also informed that all the suspects, are from the same firing range called ‘Gun Heaven’. In addition, Sharon is informed that, other common denominations between the suspects, are being looked into. Sharon and Andy also find the fact odd that, the suspects seem to know quite a lot about how the LAPD works. The both of them then recollect the fact that Detective Miller, had said earlier that most of his family had served in the army, including his son. Later Julio with a box in hand and a gun hidden behind it accompanies Miller to his house and meets his son Greg. Miller then brings up the mention of the robbery at the grocery store, with his son. Greg is then detained by Provenza, who then tells his men to search Miller’s house.

The CD of the same video game that was recovered from the suspect’s houses is found in Miller’s house. Also recovered is a gun, which matches the crime scene. Later Greg’s lawyer tells Sharon and her team that Greg is suffering from PTSD, and also that he was holding the gun and the money for a friend, and doesn’t know any of the victims. Sharon and her team in turn show him evidence that they have, which proves Greg is a drug addict who was admitted in rehab for veterans, along with all the other suspects, last December. Sharon further adds that, Greg knew about the police keeping a watch on his team, and yet he send them to the grocery store, only because he wanted them all killed. The DA then informs Greg and his lawyer that he shall be given a lighter sentence if he gives the details of the crime to the police. Greg then reveals that, no one was trying to kill Larry; in fact they were trying to help him get away.

He adds that, when Randall realized he had shot Larry he killed himself. Julio though proves that Greg is lying, and that the shots were fired with the intent to kill Larry. The DA then clarifies to Greg’s lawyer the fact that, he has taken less than this to prove in court that, its murder in the first degree. The DA then ups the ante by offering Greg the opportunity to admit to 2 counts of murder in the second degree, in return for which he wouldn’t be charged for murder in the first degree. Greg’s lawyer then asks him to take the offer, but Greg is defiant and livid on being asked to accept the offer.

Sharon then clarifies to Greg that he has only two options, one is to sign the confession and choose life, or to reject the offer and chose execution by a lethal injection. She adds “if you choose death, we have an obligation to see that you get it”. Later, Provenza voices his discontent to Sharon about the deal that was offered to Greg. Sharon in turn reminds him that, she managed to put away a murderer for life in 48 hours, which isn’t bad. She also reminds Provenza how; when a suspect accepts a deal they surrender all their right to appeal. Provenza then humbled, leaves the room. Later, Sharon takes Rusty home, as he has nowhere else to go. At home, Sharon tells Rusty that she will do her best to find his mother. Rusty though doesn’t seem to believe her. The episode ends at this point.
