After the huge commercial success of the all-girl group, Danity Kane, formed on Making the Band 4, Diddy's at it again. This time Diddy is on a quest to form an all-male R&B group along the lines of New Edition, Boyz II Men, and 112. There to assist Diddy in his nation-wide search for the most talented men in America is his "Dream Team". This dream team consists of choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson, who had previously worked with him on Making the Band 3, R&B singer Joe, A&R Slam, vocal coach Ankh Ra, New Edition's Michael Bivins, and Grammy Award-winning producer Bryan Michael Cox. The dream team is there to help in every step throughout his quest for the next all-male R&B group.
Twenty hopefuls make the house, in which they strive to make this superstar band. Throughout their fight to make the band, the guys face many challenges and punches thrown by Diddy. From walking the five boroughs in the New York cold, to performing the next day at the legendary BB Kings. From fighting for a spot in the house against new talent, to opening up for New Edition. Throughout each struggle, some survived and others did not make the cut. In the end, on August 26, 2007, Diddy made a band consisting of Willie Taylor III, Robert Curry, Qwanell Mosley, Michael McCluney, and Brian Andrews. Also giving a solo contract to Donnie Klang. In which the second season explores the guys recording their debut album.
During the second season, Diddy housed the MTB4 winners, Donnie, and the MTB3 winners, Danity Kane, in a $2.5 million mansion in Miami to record Donnie and the MTB4 winners debut albums and Danity Kane's sophomore effort. The guys and girls are put against each other in completing the better album.
