Top 13 Compete - Recap
With Ryan gone home, it is Josh (24), Tanya (21), Anna (28), Becky (27), Frank (28), Monti (36), Felix (24), Scott (38), David (32), Tali (29), Christine (32), Mike (40) and Stacey (29) who have to show that they have what it takes to stay in the competition. The cooks get into the Kitchen and judges Graham Elliot Bowles, Joe Bastianich and Gordon Ramsay meet them inside.
Gordon says that there is another Mystery Box Challenge. Graham says that they will be watching them. They lift it up and it is T-Bone Steak. They will have 60 minutes to create a $50 dish with $15 worth of product. They get working and Joe says that they are going to have to see some imagination and the chefs talk amongst themselves as the cooks get to cooking. They walk around and like the interesting combinations. Becky is doing a desert to stand out. Tali is struggling. With 5 minutes left, the cooks get to prepare their dish.
The cooks present their dishes and the 3 stand-out dishes are Frank, Tanya and Becky. Frank goes up first and serves Grilled T-Bone Steak with Corn, Slaw and Cream Sauce. Gordon says that the sear is great. He says that it is a bloody good dish. Graham says that it is spot on. Joe says that it looks like he had the entire pantry at his disposal. Tanya comes up and serves a Tarragon T-Bone Steak with Braised Cabbage and Corn Puree. Graham says that it is great and says that she is going to go far. Gordon says that she did a great job. Becky comes up and serves Caramelized Peach with Peaches and Cream Puree. Joe says that her cook on the Peach is amazing. Graham says that it is beautiful because of its simplicity. The winner of the challenge is Tanya.
Gordon, Joe, Graham and Tanya go to the pantry and the Elimination Test is their favorite desert. She has Joe’s Tiramisu, Graham’s Strawberry Short-Cake and Gordon’s British Trifle. All three will be served. She gets to choose who cooks what. The chefs show the cooks what they have and divide. Stacey, Monti, Becky and Josh get Trifle, Tali, Scott, Christine and Mike get Strawberry Shortcake and David, Anna, Felix and Frank get Tiramisu. The cooks get busy with the 60 minutes that they get busy. The frantically work to get the desert made and Monti is more frazzled then anyone else. Josh smiles at this. The time is up and they have to present.
Felix brings up her Tiramisu. She says that it looks like crap. Joe tries it and he tastes Macadamia Nuts. Felix apologizes and Graham says that it is not the matter of eating it either. Gordon says that it was not good at all. He says that it is her worst. Anna comes up and Joe loves how it looks and says that it is great. Frank comes up and Graham says that it is pretty and tastes great. David comes up and has hazelnut on it. Gordon says that it is not great. Joe asks what the watery stuff is and it is the lady fingers and it is soaked. Josh comes up with his Trifle. Joe says that it tastes like a banana split. Graham says that it doesn’t have the beautiful layers.
Monti brings up her Trifle and Gordon says that it is delicious. Stacey brings up her Trifle and Gordon says that it is delicious and loved the boldness of putting vinegar. Becky comes up with her Trifle. Joe spits it out and says that he doesn’t even think it is edible. Gordon says that there are so many strong flavors in it. Graham says that there is a strong possibility that Tanya knocked her out of this. Mike brings his Shortcake. Graham says that it is an interesting design. Joe says that the plate is not pretty. Christine comes up with her Shortcake and Gordon says that it is delicious, but wanted the strawberries and not blackberries. Tali brings up his and Graham says that it is delicious. Last up is Scott with his shortcake. It is doughy and Gordon says that he thought this was going to be good. Joe says that it is not good.
The judges talk and say that they were all good. Becky talks to Monti and says that she can’t belive that Joe spit out the food. Stacey wins the best dish. The three worst dishes were Felix’s Tiramisu, Scott’s Shortcake and Becky’s Trifle. Becky is told that she is saved. Felix is told that she has a future in food and says that she is safe. Scott has the worst dish and leaves the competition.
