The place is 1820's England, and young Amy Dorrit's father has been in debtors prison now for 25 years, as she takes on a job as a seamstress with Ms. Clennam, a stern shut-in. The woman's son, Arthur, who has just returned from decades abroad, is suspicious of her kind act.
