Businessman Rex Fortescue appears to have been poisoned after dropping dead following breakfast. The lone piece of evidence is a single grain seed found inside his suit pocket. But no one seems to miss him, from his estranged and angry children to his wife who seems to be comfortable. Inspector Neele is dispatched to investigate, but makes very little progress before Miss Marple arrives. She believes that the killer seems inspired by the rhyme "Sing a Song of Sixpence." With murders piling up, Miss Marple makes a dark discovery concerning the motive.
