Recap

In 1981 in Cloverdale Texas, the Reddle family sits down for supper. Young only child Kevin shows off his knowledge as his mother Jodi goes out to the kitchen and asks him to come along. They're preparing a surprise birthday cake for Kevin's father John, but notice a small patch of black oil dripping from the ceiling. Then John comes into the kitchen carrying a shotgun. He says that "the damned thing" has found him, then shoots Jodi down in cold blood. Kevin runs outside and John chases after him. He fires repeatedly and one round leaves a grazing wound on Kevins forehead. He finally hides in a tree but his father spots him and prepares to kill him. However, suddenly John is lifted up into the air and thrown against his truck, then flipped upside down as some invisible force eviscerates him as Kevin looks on in horror...
