In a quiet suburban home in a quiet suburban neighborhood, Harold Thompson is working his basement workshop. He dons a gas mask and then starts pouring acid over an elderly man's corpse, removing the flesh. An alarm goes off and Harold apologizes to "Dad," and takes a break for lunch. He notices a young couple moving in next door and they cheerfully wave to him. Back inside, Harold takes a lunch tray upstairs where he chats with his wife Jane and daughter Sarah: skeletons that he has dressed up and believes are alive.

That night, Celia and David Fuller are setting up and David admits he still feels unsure about moving, thinking it's a huge mistake. Celia reassures him and they go out for several drinks. When they return home, they accidentally knock over Harold's brick mailbox. They knock on the door and Harold watches them from the shadows. Getting no answer, David leaves a note with insurance information. As they leave, they fail to notice a skull hidden within the brickwork.
The next morning, they go back to Harold's house to see the mailbox is already fixed. Harold answers the door and they apologize, and he cheerfully invites them inside. As he serves coffee, he says that he's a bachelor and an independent salesman who manufactures a plastic film for hunting and fishing licenses. Celia is an investigative reporter and David a doctor. Celia mutters about being sexually unsatisfied and the size of Harold's penis, but when Harold wonders what she says she claims she didn't say anything unusual. It turns out they're all from Burbank and lived near each other, without having ever met each other before. As the couple leave, they invite Harold over to dinner.

Later in the basement, Harold strips the old man's skeleton of its remaining flesh, boils the bones, wires them back together, and dresses it with a wig. He then brings it upstairs and introduces Grandpa to Jane and Sarah. As Harold relaxes with Jane, she starts to become jealous of Celia and says they have enough family members. Jane warns that it's took risky to recruit another family member so close to home, but Harold warns that David may have seen the bones. He denies that he has any plans but Jane doesn't believe him.
Harold later goes to the shopping mall to find a suitable elderly woman so he can add a Grandma to the family. He spots a suitable candidate and follows her home, then approaches her and claims he's been sent to the wrong address by his insurance company. He offers to help her with her groceries and she accepts his offer, but once inside he locks the door. That night, he drives home with the old woman in the back and pulls into his garage. Next door, David is working on the toilet and then joins his wife in the bedroom but is reluctant to get into bed with her. He admits he isn't ready to have another child and she says she needs him to commit.
Harold is hallucinating giving his new mother a bath (actually stripping her flesh with acid) when Celia comes over to invite him to dinner that Friday night. He hallucinates Jane yelling at him and accusing him of flirting with Celia.

On Friday night Harold arrives and Celia shows him around the house and Harold asks to see the basement, but David says the lights are out and they haven't been down there yet. The three of them get along great over dinner and chat about their experiences in Burbank. Harold notices that Celia is smoking, and explains that he left Burbank and moved back a couple of years ago to his hometown. They start talking about children and David looks uncomfortable, and Celia mentions they had a daughter who died of cancer. Afterward, Harold leaves but sneaks around to the back of the house and spies through the window, seeing the couple arguing and avoids being spotted. Returning home, he discovers that Jane is drinking. Jane says that she's the first but Harold notes that she wasn't the first and that his first wife is in the mailbox. When Sarah comes in and wonders why they're fighting, Jane says Harold doesn't love them and plans to replace them, and Harold says she's nuts. He tucks Sarah in and she wonders if she could have a sister. Harold tells her to go to sleep and then dozes off.. with the skeleton.
The next day, Harold checks out the local high school and hallucinates the various girls talking to him about their virtues. One girl finally "begs" him to come take her and he follows her down the street but a housewife accidentally collides with him. He hallucinates the girl saying it would have been good. An injured Harold goes to the hospital where David is working and they chat about how the couple is doing. That night at home, David talks to Celia and says that he's ready, and they make love.
A couple of days later, Harold watches David and says that he doesn't deserve Celia, while Grandma tells him to listen to his heart. He sees a police car and goes over to talk to Celia, who says David has disappeared. She says they've been fighting and the police don't suspect foul play. Harold comforts her. He returns home and takes the Jane skeleton to the basement. He argues with her, asserting that he didn't do anything to David and it must be fate to bring them together. Harold shatters the skeleton with a hammer then goes to see Celia. He suggests she come over for dinner and she agrees, and he prepares a luxurious meal and sets up the family. Celia arrives and he promises to show her the entire house. He asks her not to smoke and they sit down for dinner. They start to snap at each other but then Harold hallucinates Celia saying she wants him right there on the table. Celia finally decides to leave, insisting she's a married woman, but Harold says he just wants to be her friend. He convinces her to stay for desert and goes out into the kitchen to prepare it, but she comes out and says she needs to go out back to have a cigarette.
She comes back in and Harold shows her the family room where she comes face-to-face with his "family." He wraps a rope around her throat but she hits him in the groin and tries to make a run for it. They struggle and she manages to get downstairs only for him to start to strangle her again. However, David comes up behind them and chloroforms Harold unconscious: she left the back door open for him.Celia says that "she" is upstairs, wearing the same green dress.

Harold wakes up in the Fullers' basement, tied up and gagged. Celia and David are in surgical gear and ungag him. Celila punches Harold and says that she tracked him down, then notes that he killed their daughter. The couple say that they're going to kill him, but first he's going to experience every bit of pain he's ever caused. They never filed a missing person report on David, and have been planning revenge for years. David drives a metal implement up Harold's nose as he screams in agony. Later, they look over his bloody body and consider starting a family. As they say they love each other, David assures her they can keep Harold alive 12 to 14 days. | There Are No Foreign Summaries For This Episode Contribute Here |
