The scene opens with a drunken Sutton singing to the jukebox. He gets the whole bar into singing and dance. Sutton punches Greenback in the stomach. Greenback gets serious and Sutton tells that Greenback is not a wimp. Sutton tells Greenback that he can hit him in the face and Greenback says for Sutton to hit him first. Sutton punches Greenback in the face and pushes him into the bar. A guy pushes Sutton and Greenback sticks up for Sutton and pushes the other guy. Dwight and Charlie get into the brawl and they beat up the drunken man and his friends then go back to singing. Later a drunken Sutton asks what life is all about and asks what bar is next and Greenback takes Sutton home.

Dwight and Charlie drive around the area and a car pulls up to a gas station behind them as they drive away. A guy gets out and tells that his life is about to change. Another car pulls up and has a pipe. The man fights with the other and there is a gunshot. Dwight and Charlie arrive on scene and Sutton tells that Wendell “Honey-boy” Taylor, the boxer, is the victim and was shot. But Sutton hears that he will live through it. His wallet was gone and that was it. Sutton tells that he rounded up thugs, a homeless man, and a prostitute and tells them to put them in the hot box. But Charlie tells Sutton to take their statements and let them go. Inside the gas station, Dwight talks to the attendant, Phil, and Dwight tells that Phil would have had a good view. Phil tells that he was making coffee when he heard the gunshot. He offers to give the surveillance tapes to them. Dwight asks
Dwight and Charlie visit Wendell in the hospital and his girlfriend, Billi, says that she was talking to him before he was in the fight. He is in a coma and Billi tells that he is going to be the best dad. She tells that she is three months along. Dwight tells Lt. Rice about the history of Wendell’s career in boxing and that the tech guys are trying to clean up the surveillance video. He mentions that Wendell’s boxing manager, Ron Funk, stands to loose the most and has a record. Dwight and Charlie visit and tells that Jerry “Bug” Budner, Wendell’s sparring partner doesn’t like him and tells that he was making trouble. He tells that he brought a gun to a boxing club for Wendell. Before leaving Dwight sees a picture on Funks wall of a tattoo rose.
The two detectives visit with Jerry and he runs. They catch up to him and he gets trapped. Charlie tells that he will shoot Jerry if he doesn’t get on the ground. He tells that they either fight him or shoot him. Dwight tells that he will fight him. Dwight starts to name old class boxers and howls at him. Jerry thinks Dwight is crazy and tells that he won’t fight him. Charlie asks why he brought a gun to kill Wendell to the boxing club. He tells that he brought that for Ron Funk because he told him to throw a fight. He tells that they really need to be looking at Funk because he had a fight a while ago and there is still tension. Dwight tells that Funk goes to church and so does Wendell.
They go to the church and find out that Funk is a “generous” donator to the church. The priest tells that Funk had an affair with Wendell’s girlfriend 8 months ago and that Wendell made up with his girlfriend but there was a “trying period” for Wendell and Funk. Back at the station a person who had his wallet stolen needs to see someone to speed up. Sutton spots that the man has a pair of shoes that he has and the man tells that he is getting ready to go to his 10 year High School reunion and Sutton shows that he got his invitation to his 10 year. Sutton tells that he is going to “throw his weight around” and see if he can’t help out the stranger sooner. Meanwhile, Dwight and Charlie are at the hospital and say that Wendell has a lot of friends. Dwight asks if any boxing people came back and Billi tells that Funk was there and leans over and shows a rose tattoo on her stomach. She tells that she was young and stupid and tells that Funk and Wendell needed to work with each other to better them both and tells that Funk forgave and forgot. But Dwight tells Charlie as they leave that the picture of Billi’s tattoo on Funk’s wall is a clear sign that Funk has not forgotten.

Back at the station, Sutton asks if the stranger was helped yet and the officer tells that he is next. Sutton tells that his new friend is up but he won’t wake up. He is dead. Charlie gets a call from Greenback and tells that Funk went A-Wall. Back at the police station, the coroner tells that if she had to guess, it was because of an aneurism. Sutton tells that he will track down where he bought the shoes and follow the leads. Lt. Rice appreciates the initiative and Sutton tells that he feels that it reminded him of himself and now the stranger is dead. Greenback tells Charlie that he got a description from the video. It is a ‘98 Red Camry. Randi Perkins is the owner of the car and he was just released from County.
They visit Randi and he tells that he wasn’t anywhere near a gas station and tells them to verify it with his grandma. Dwight is in the car and he is still thinking to where Funk had “gone eating” too like his neighbors said. Charlie and Dwight say “bull’s balls” at the same time and visit Jerry again and ask where Bull’s Balls is. He tells that it is in Houston and that he liked other things too like Eels too. Dwight sees a picture of Funk and Wendell at the press conference. Jerry tells that someone was in the crowd that killed Wendell’s buzz and brought him down. Meanwhile, Sutton is trying to find the guy on Classmates.com and Sutton tells Greenback that something “spiritual” happened to him. The stranger is named Steve and he talked with his sister and she told that Steve was going to find a sweetheart that he wanted to do but could never do. Sutton feels that he needs to face his own fears and go after the girl that got away.
Dwight and Charlie talk with Lt. Rice and tell her that Wendell was spooked by someone at the press conference and that he withdrew $10,000 from his account and the next day Funk paid off a bookie with the $10,000. They find out where Funk is hiding and they go to get him. They find Funk eating with a bunch of rich people and tell that if Funk cooperates, then they will give him a nice jail cell and not allow his bookies to break his legs. Funk tells that the guy that spooked Wendell was not his and that it was a white guy. Dwight tells that if Funk gives a useful sketch to them, they will help him out with his bookie problem. Greenback enters and tells that Wendell has come out of his coma. Dwight and Charlie visit him and he tells that he tells that the night is a blur and tells that he visited his pastor before the gas station. Dwight visits Andre the pastor and tells that he lied to him. Andre tells that Wendell was always channeling the ghosts of his past. One included a white boy in foster care that he almost killed. Dwight gets back to the station and tells that he ran the juvenile record and the boy that Wendell almost killed as Phil Jorgeson. The sketch comes back. It is the cashier of the gas station.
Sutton is looking at a picture of Jamie, the girl that got away, and she is not there. He talks to her mother and it is not Jamie who he was in love with. It was her mother. She is flattered but she tells that she is married and has been for 35 years. Sutton tells that he is available in case she wants to “transgress”. Dwight and Charlie visit Phil at the gas station and he tells that he was at the press conference but only as a fan. Wendell told him that he wanted to meet him in private and to pay for the medical bills that he and his family had to pay for so many years ago. He was making coffee the night that Wendell got shot but had nothing to do with. Dwight finds a poster of Wendell and the Porsche that was given to him. They see Randi Perkin’s girlfriend in the photo too. Later they find out that Randi’s girlfriend Queenie, is the secretary of the dealership and that the owner is a scumbag.

They bring in Randi and they question him of the shooting. He denies it and Charlie gets a little heated. Dwight tells Charlie to take a break and talks to Randi alone. Dwight sees the cross around Randi’s neck and he tells that he too was raised Methodist but like Randi, he strayed away from the church. Behind the glass, Lt. Rice asks why Dwight is so upset with God. Charlie tells that Dwight’s dad was shot while on duty. Back in the interview room, Dwight tells that Randi needs to confess to escape the harmful judgment of God. Randi looks at himself in the mirror and confesses. At the hospital, Phil shakes Wendell’s hand. At the church, Dwight is singing in the choir and the episode ends.
