Tommy Hicks was shot for cowardice during the first world war and his family are happy when his name is finally added to the local war memorial. The rich Hammond family aren't happy though as they don't get along with the Hicks family and it was one of their ancestors who shot Tommy. When Henry Hammond is murdered Barnaby and Jones find themselves investigating the case.
