For the first time in 60 year TV history, The Miss America Organization is allowing cameras to broadcast the hour leading up to the competition. Hosted by Good Morning America’s Amy Robach, Countdown to Miss America will cover every aspect of this year’s competition, including the exciting & nail-biting preliminary competitions as well as all of the evening’s glitz, glam & ball gowns, as cameras go backstage where 53 young women will be preparing to represent their home states & territories, all hoping to bring home the crown. Countdown to Miss America will also take a historical look back at the Miss America Organization’s 9 decades of scholarships & service & introduce viewers to more than 30 former Miss Americas, including Lee Meriwether who was the first Miss America crowned on TV 60 years ago.
Brooke Burke and Chris Harrison host the 2011 pageant, which celebrates its 90th year, at the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Fifty-three women between the ages of 17 and 24 vie for the crown held by reigning queen Caressa Cameron.
