Rollin discovers that Vossek isn’t in his cell and runs away.
At the circus, Cinnamon and Dan do their mind-reading act. Barney climbs up Crystal’s trapeze support and comes back down with the sling, while Willy waits at the base. They then drive the truck to the prison fence and raise the cherry picker up to the circus banner. When Tosk comes by on patrol, Barney waves casually to him and pretends to be working. The sergeant watches them briefly but soon grows bored and goes back on patrol. Meanwhile, Rollin signals to Barney that he’s calling off the rescue.
Crystal comes over to Tosk and flirts with him, keeping him distracted while Willy and Barney bring the truck back. Tosk notes that he thought they were taking down the banner to leave, and Crystal assures him that she’ll be around for awhile.
In the prison, the guards check the cells and confirm that Rollin is in his.
Barney tells Dan and Cinnamon, who are packed and ready to leave, that Rollin called off the rescue. Colonel Scutari comes over and asks why they’re leaving, and Dan says that he changed his mind. Cinnamon plays along and says that it’s her fault, but Scutari says he doesn’t believe them. As Dan reaches for his gun, Scutari accuses them all of being petty thieves and promises to watch them carefully. Once he leaves, Dan says that they can’t have Scutari watching them and tells Barney that they’ll take him out. Crystal comes over to ask what happened and Dan says that he has to find out.
Dan goes to Servano Prison and meets with Rollin. Meanwhile, at the tent Crystal worries about Dan and Cinnamon avoids admitting that she worries about Rollin.
Dan meets with Rollin, who sends him another series of coded phrases in a staged conversation. Back at the circus, Dan passes on Rollin’s message that Vossek has been moved to solitary. He has an idea and tells the team that he has a use for Scutari, and then tells Crystal to make sure everyone is watching her at her next performance. When she asks why, Dan explains that he told Rollin to break out by himself.
Later, the captain comes to see Vossek in solitary. When the cardinal wonders if he’s come to get a confession the captain tells him that orders have been issued to execute him. Vossek isn’t surprised and asks why the captain told him. He assures the captain that he will have no problem seeking peace with God.
Crystal and Barney tell Dan that they have something planned, and Barney warns that they’ll be pushing their window of opportunity to strike everything in time. Dan confirms that everyone is clear on the changes, and then admits to Crystal that he has never been up on the high-wire. He tells them not to wait for him if he has a problem with heights.
The captain asks Vossek to confess to something, anything, so that he can delay the execution. Vossek refuses and the captain explains that he’s been ordered to step up the beatings. The cardinal realizes that the captain wants to be forgiven. He forgives the captain but asks if he can forgive himself. Shaken, the captain leaves the cell, snaps at a soldier, and goes to his office.
In the prison, the guards bring the food around to the cells. At the circus, Cinnamon plays the calliope music for Crystal’s performance. Dan, wearing Barney’s clown costume from earlier, dances around and lures Scutari away into a tent. He punches the captain unconscious and then removes his makeup.
Rollin breaks out of his cell and heads up the stairs ahead of the guards on their regular patrol. He makes it to the roof, closing the door behind him. Barney secretly cuts the line and Crystal dangles by one leg. While everyone watches her, including Tosk, Rollin climbs down the side of the prison, slips over the wall, and strides by another guard. Crystal finally pulls herself up to safety and the crowd applauds.
Dan, wearing a colonel’s uniform and posing as Scutari, leads Rollin through the crowd at gunpoint and takes him to the prison. He bluffs the guards into letting him past and takes Rollin inside. The captain can’t believe that someone has escaped, and Dan insists on taking care of Rollin personally. He suggests that someone on the inside helped Rollin and accuses the captain. The captain denies it and lets Dan escort Rollin into the prison proper. The metal detector goes off and the captain tells Dan that weapons aren’t permitted inside. Dan has no choice but to hand over his gun and the guards escort them to the maximum security wing. Once they go, the captain calls the Commandant.
While Willy performs his strongman routine, Barney climbs up the high-wire, removes the swing, and climbs back down. Meanwhile, Dan bullies a guard into putting Rollin in a cell. When the guard objects, Dan and Rollin take him and his partner out before they can reach the alarm. They check the logs and confirm where Vossek is being held, and then release the cardinal.
Cinnamon and Crystal pack up.
Rollin and Dan escort Vossek out just as the phone rings. Dan takes it and discovers that the Commandant is at the other end. He insists that he’s well within his authority to take command and tells the Commandant to meet him in his office. Dan hangs up and then puts the phone off the hook.
While Rollin escorts Vossek up the stairs, Willy and Barney pack up and then drive the truck with the cheery picker back to the circus banner. Tosk watches them as Barney climbs up to the basket and starts removing the ropes.
Dan catches up to Rollin and Vossek and warns that they’re running out of time, and then helps the cardinal up the stairs.
Tosk soon grows bored and wanders off to talk to Cinnamon and Crystal, who pull over in the circus trailer. Meanwhile, Barney nervously watches the prison roof.
The Commandant finally calls division headquarters. Meanwhile, Dan and Rollin hear a guard coming down. Dan intercepts him and orders him to the roof and then tells him to lock the door. Once outside, Dan knocks the sergeant out as Rollin arrives with Vossek.
Cinnamon and Crystal check the coupling on the trailer and call Tosk over to help. Crystal flirts with him and offers cigarettes, distracting him while Barney fires a crossbow with a line up to the prison roof. They tie off both ends while Cinnamon picks a fight with Crystal, further distracting Tosk.
The Commandant summons the captain to his office and confirms by phone that “Skutari” has Class One clearance. He tells the captain to find Dan and bring him to his office.
Rollin has Vossek hang onto him and then slides down the line, past the fence to the truck. Barney and Willy hide them under the covers on the back of the cherry picker, and then Dan slides down using his belt. The line briefly goes loose and Willy and Barney hastily tighten it so that Dan can get to safety. He gets in the truck with Rollin and Vossek and cranks up the cherry picker.
Tosk finally tries to stop the two women but Crystal claws at his face and they go at it again. Barney and Willy come over and separate the two screaming women. The nearby guard phone ring and Tosk runs to get it. The captain demands to know why he hasn’t reported in and the sergeant informs his superior that everything is under control. Meanwhile, the IMF team packs up and leaves in the two trucks as Cinnamon and Crystal hug and laugh in relief.
The captain checks and reports that Vossek and Rollin have both disappeared and the guards have been knocked out. The Commandant tells him to search for Dan, insisting that no one can escape.
As night falls, the trucks pull up to the border. The guards search the trailer and find Cinnamon and Crystal changing their clothing. When one of the guards tries to search the back of the cherry picker, Barney, dressed as a clown again and armed with the crossbow, pops up and puts an apple on the guard’s head. The guards okay them to pass and then go to answer the phone as it rings. Barney gets into the calliope trailer on the back and starts playing, making it impossible for the guards to hear the Commandant. The Commandant hears the music in the background and tells the guards to stop the circus trailers, but it’s too late. The IMF team escapes with Barney still playing, while Rollin checks on Vossek and confirms that he’s okay.
