Fakeout - Recap

Dan picks up his briefing tip from a bird researcher working at a rooftop pigeon cote. He’s informed that Anastas Poltroni, aka Ted Carson, is a major drug dealer and has taken refuge in a country with no extradition treaty with the U.S. The IMF must get him out of the country so he can be arrested but they can’t kidnap him due to the potential political ramifications.

Dan picks Barney and Cinnamon for the mission and in the briefing, Cinnamon rehearses with a stocking mask. Dan explains the plan to first steal Carson’s drugs and then plant them on Carson. Dan also warns Barney about Carson’s henchman, Hidalgo.

Barney goes to work at the zoo where Carson has his drugs delivered, while Cinnamon checks in at the hotel where Carson is staying. She sees Carson and Hidalgo harass a parking attendant who scratches his car, then makes Carson’s acquaintance and they flirt, and he invites her to dinner.

That night, Hidalgo goes to the zoo to get the drugs and goes to a python case. Barney notices him but Hidalgo spots him and they fight. They end up struggling next to a polar bear cage and Hidalgo falls into the exhibit and is killed. Barney goes to the python cage and has to cut the python open to get to the drugs inside of it. He then sneaks into Carson’s room and hides the drugs.

Cinnamon returns to her hotel room with Carson and they flirt some more. Carson, a “man’s man,” comes on cool to Cinnamon but she ends u p in lingerie on the couch with him. Dan barges in and holds them at gunpoint and Carson tries to bribe him. It’s a ruse to get close enough to disarm Dan, and Carson then figures they were working together to blackmail him. He tells them to go away and they go to a local bar and meet Barney. They figure the parking attendant can help them and Barney contacts the man to rearrange the signs on the roads near the border, then calls the police.

The police get a search warrant, search Carson’s room, and find the drugs. They take him downstairs but Dan, Barney, and Cinnamon attack them and steal the drugs. The men escape but Cinnamon is left behind and Carson catches her. He demands that she take him to Dan and she leads him out of the city to a hunting lodge. Carson gets the drop on Dan and Cinnamon reveals where the drugs are hidden.

The police arrive and surround the place, and call on the loudspeaker for everyone to come out. Carson forces Dan to go out first and get gunned down, while he takes Cinnamon and slips out the back. The “police” are Barney with a tape recording, and the bullets are blanks. Dan and Barney dress as policemen and pursue Carson. Thanks to the altered road signs, he heads for the border when he thinks he’s going away from it. Carson finally arrives at the border and realizes he’s been tricked, but the police are waiting and arrest him while the IMF slips quietly away.
