Snowball in Hell - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Dan picks up his briefing at a pay phone at night, and dialing a number opens a hidden compartment. He’s informed that Gerard Sefra presides over an infamous prison, now closed down. Sefra has gained a sample of cesium 138 and its formula, which he has memorized and is now selling to the highest bidder. The IMF must make sure no one gets the cesium or the formula.

Dan assembles the usual team and Barney displays a small remote-controlled refrigeration device on treads. Cesium 138 explodes when the temperature rises above a certain point. Barney has also talked to a former prisoner who has escaped from the prison, and Cinnamon will be working at the local hospital. Barney warns that Sefra was fond of using a whip on his prisoners, and Rollin will have to duplicate the scars on Barney. They figure Sefra has the cesium 138 hidden somewhere in a refrigeration unit and they’ll have to get him to give the formula to them.

Dan and Willy go to a mine near the prison while Rollin and Barney go in as a photographer and a model, respectively. Rollin has government authorization to force Sefra to let them take their pictures. They ask him for prison clothes and it’s clear Barney doesn’t like Sefra.

Cinnamon arrives at the hospital as a nurse, while Barney and Rollin go into the cell which is below the main level. Barney then digs out a block but before he can plant a magnetic homing device, Sefra comes in. They hastily replace the block but the uniformed Sefra removes the ladder and taunts them with their helplessness before telling them to take the photos from the prisoner’s point of view.

Dan and Willy try to locate the magnetic signal while Sefra finally lets Rollin and Barney up. At the hospital, Cinnamon has some American medical supplies moved into a store room. Once the workers leave, she moves them into position.

Sefra shows off his torture chambers and notices the scars on Barney’s back, although Barney claims he got them in an accident. Barney also lets slip that he’s familiar with the prison layout, further raising Sefra’s suspicions. After Sefra leaves them, Barney slips off to plant the magnetic homing device and Rollin heads into town, while Sefra reviews his files and finds one that resembles Barney.

Barney plants the homing device but Sefra confronts him and forces him back into the cell. Barney admits he was a prisoner there and Sefra prepares to whip him for information. Dan and Willy dig through into the prison cell and use a rope to ascend up to the ground level. Meanwhile, Rollin arrives at the hospital and starts opening the “medical supplies,” putting on refrigerated garb and then building a special box out of the parts.

Dan and Willy get to the generator and sabotage it. Sefra is torturing Barney who finally admits he came back to kill Sefra. The lights go out and Sefra has Barney locked up in the cell. Realizing the temperature of the cesium 138 is rising, he warns they only have 20 minutes. Meanwhile Dan and Willy go back out through the tunnel to the cell but leaves the block ajar. Sefra tries to cool the cesium with ice and Barney yells for a doctor, prodding Sefra into remembering the nearby hospital. He takes the cesium there and forces the doctor to put it in cold storage in the storeroom. Once he leaves, Rollin emerges from the boxes reconstructed into something large enough to hold him. He also has the remote tread unit and puts the cesium into its refrigerated compartment.

Once the generator is repaired, Sefra goes into the storeroom and gets what he thinks is the cesium to take back to the prison. Rollin, then puts on a doctor’s uniform and takes the motorized unit out and back to the mine. Sefra gets word that the generator was sabotaged and realizing something is wrong, discovers the cesium is missing. He seals the area and demands answers from Barney. Barney tells him that Rollin is in the tunnel with the cesium but it isn’t finished so he’s trapped.

Sefra goes to the cell while Barney picks the lock on his cell and Willy puts the motorized unit in the tunnel and sends it toward the cell. Sefra spots the loose block and goes into the tunnel. He’s confronted by the motorized unit, and its refrigeration shuts off. The cesium explodes, killing Sefra and burying him under a ton of rubble. Barney slips out and meets up with the others and they all make their escape.
